Re: BBT Extreme 43% Edge w/DA200 on PIPES!!!

The Plane......

We're going to do some moderate lightening on it, but nothing radical!! With all the power up front, the airframe has to be as strong as possible

I'm going to try to integrate all the little bells and whistles into this build from past projects - things like...
* the Durant Gussets on the fuse stringers
* some CF on the fuse,
* integrated tank saddles / pipe mounts into the motorbox
* Monokoted pipe tunnel
* coring of the foam fuse parts
* belly modifications
* moderate coring of the flying surfaces with CF Tow stiffening
* etc, etc

We're also going to do Durant Direct Drive on this beast!!!

Lots of bling is already on order such as Graphtech CF parts, Airman wheels and TailWheel!!

Lots of thought is currently going into the radio / servo system - likely David and Chris will go Futaba SBUS

I'd guess that the covering scheme will be pretty intense and am willing to guess that there may be a little airbrushing work

And the list goes on and on............................

Re: BBT Extreme 43% Edge w/DA200 on PIPES!!!

The Motor....

Pictures are worth a thousand words, LOL!!!! - A lightened DA200 with 2-into-1 headers, and twin RE3 Tuned Pipes arrived at my doorstep yesterday!!!!

Up until now, people have been running the DA200s on KS canisters.

But, the Mintor220 quad and my 3W220CS quad are on tuned pipes and both of those motors are getting huge performance gains... like 200-300 rpm gains on those big props - that's massive thrust gains

And, after talking to DA about putting pipes on the DA200, they said it would likely react well to the pipes, but to date no-one has done the testing to see what the optimal header length should be

So, David and Chris were game to go the RE3 route and I'll do all the testing on my test stand to find that optimal header length

Should be very fun

I know David is here on RCC, and I told him I'd start the thread tonight, so I'm sure he'll chime in and introduce himself to us all!!

Ya - northern AB seems to be the BBT capital of Canada, LOL!!!
