Need IMAC plane suggestions

Hello

IMAC is coming to my area next year, and I would love to participate. I am capped off with a low income, so I can only afford a plane my Saito 1.50 can fly with authority. I have all the servos gathered up from past projects, 5625 Hitecs and 5645 Hitecs. All I need is the airplane. What would be a good airframe for my equipment?

Hi Shane,

What area of Canada would that be?

For the engine you have I would suggest the Extreme Flight 74" Yak 54.

It also comes in this colour....

Or an ALL White version. It is US$ 399.00 + Shipping but is also available from our very own Jason, Mr. RC CAnada, from his company Maxair for CDN $449.99 + Shipping and Taxes if applicable. Only the Black/Yellow is listed but he can bring in any EF product so if you wanted the Red/Wht and Blk one you should be able to get it.

Another good choice would be the Great Planes Yak but it might need a little more engine.

The EF yaks fly great. I have had three and you will be hard beat to find a better rolling airplane.

Perhaps jason has not updated the prices on his site yet. An email or phone call might get you a better price, I do not know.

Are there any online reviews of the aircraft? It's hard to tell exactly just from the online add how well the airplane will perform.

But... It looks and smells like a scale aircraft, so that one will most likely be legal for any class in IMAC. The downside of going with a smaller airframe is that they don't seem to present the complicated maneuvers in the upper levels quite as well... they appear to fly faster, and therefore you need to rush through the elements more quickly. Smaller airframes are also tougher to fly cleanly in heavy winds.

However, the pilot and setup make a bigger difference than the exact aircraft. So especially if you start out in Basic almost any plane can be competitive. My Funtana 90 placed 3rd in Basic at Belleville this year.

Where is your area? and What class are you thinking of getting into? I just started competing this season, and I'm glad I started in Basic. One of the steepest learning curves was trying to figure out what the judges are looking for. It was easier to figure this out in Basic when I wasn't overloaded by maneuvers within maneuvers.

WHat about looking for a used Goldberg Sukhoi airframe? They fly great.

Or, there are so many "crazy" IMAC guys buying bigger and bigger planes each year, and selling off their old stuff, that there should be some smaller ones up for sale this winter for sure, that may suit your Saito.

Or, sell the Saito and go to a 40cc or 50cc gasser. Cheaper on fuel and there are a lot of good running engines today that I bet you could buy with the money you got from the Saito.

Just some ideas...

They will ship from New Xealand for FREE? I wopuld get thaty in writting fiirst. Can't say anything about the airplane as never herd of them before but pictures look like half decent quality from the phots.

They don't spec any engines and if you think a 50cc or even a 40cc should go in a 70" span 10 lb model... NO WAY!

Just remember you usually get what you pay for.

So are you in the East Coast, you never said.
