A whole year to get a 5 minute program together - I wonder if it can be done
Maybe I can have this ready by then... do you think people would like to see one of these demo'ed?

jet demo

Very nice jet. It would have been neat to have it there this year as one of the highlights of the show as a CF-18 demo. Does that thing burn electrons, glow or kerosene? You should talk to Greg about doing a demo next year.

Mark - she burns, or rather, will be, burning kerosene. I have to attend a turbine meeting with Martin Lefebvre in Quebec City next year. He will be completing the jet's checkout and trim flights. With his blessing, I will be bringing her back to runways in the maritimes! I would love to have it rady for Margaree, but no guarantees.

It's a shame I have to travel so far for the turbine expertise, but, I will be bringing back much knowledge with me. By Sept, this should be like an old friend.

Nice job on the demo's, btw. I missed the airshow this year. See ya next year at GAFF, where ever they decide to hold it.

Dan

Dan - I remember talking with you and Al about getting a turbine going next summer, but i didn't think it was gonna happen this soon! It's great to hear (literally) and all the POWER to ya...lol. What's your setup gonna be? P120? Do you have to go through some sort of turbine training program inorder to be able to fly these things? I know they require a bit more TLC than a GMS47 but just what is involved? Looking forward to seeing it at the GAFF (assuming it's at a turbine capable field) or maybe even sooner. It would definately be a crowd pleaser at the airshow, provided they actually give us enough time and airspace to take advantage of it. If we had a heli demo, giant scale aerobatic demo and a turbine demo, we would have most of the bases covered as far as the average hobbyist is concerned.

Yes, I am definitely getting pumped about the jet. Once I have it completed, I am heading off to Quebec City to hang out with the boys - up there for a week. I already pre-arranged it with Martin and Marcel, and the plan will be to have it pass Martin's scrutiny, then he will test fly and do the trim flights. Then I get to buddy box with him, etc, and use up a week of vacation to get acquainted with the jet. Should be a blast...literally!!!

I have a great turbine support network in place now, and it will make things a lot easier as time goes on. Hopefully, she will make her debut in the Maritimes next summer. A demo at the airshow would definitely be a blast to do with you guys!!!

Stats for the super hornet - 90" long, Jetcat P160 powered, all tail and flap servos will be Hitec 5955TG's on regulated 6v. Radio is yet to be determined. Scale landing gear and cockpit. To keep things simple, I will not be installing the gear doors until later. Dry weight around 25lb.
Videos can be seen on Skymasters' website.

Cheers,
Dan

Hey Excellent Question. I really want to know about this too.

What kind of things do you need to do to get a turbine.

Jets need to be inspected before flying?

Are there turbine regulations or something you have to follow or adbide by before taking the jet to the feild and letting it rip?

in a couple years ill be into turbines as well this stuff would be kool to know.

I love turbines I've built a home built pulse jet many homade rockets, Im building a turbine now with a nissan turbo its pretty near complete.

even filling a pop bottle with hair spray and tossing a lit match behind it gives me a good thrill as it zooms acrosss the back yard.

lol

Guys - I agree having this at the airshow would be great but I know there are different restrictions on the turbines being there as opposed to the helis and scale.

It would have to be set time when nothing else is up (no commercial) and would have to be on the main cross runway as there would not be enough room on the taxi way in which we are flying off of. I'm not sure if we are allowed to stand out that far.

This will be a topic of descussion next time I meet with the guys from the airshow.

I'll try my best.

Greg
