Something that has been haunting me for years is this Wakefield F/F rubber powered. I can still see it. After the initial burst of power was gone it just floated around with the prop turning 200 or 400 RPM. A beautiful thing to see. I have a couple of the Byro drives. They are really big and heavy and because they use a .60 engine the A/C would be huge. I was thinking of something around .29 to .40 size and a gear ratio of 4 or 5 to one. I figure it would still fly an eight foot cabin job. Has anyone tried this?

Re: Gear drive nitro

You should be the first Cliff and I'll be watching with interest.
I have plans and a huge desire to build a 14ft Flying Quaker. I think one of those drives with a real good 60 might just fly it. Maybe we could even go with a large four stroke.

Re: Gear drive nitro

HI;
One Byro drive has a Super Tiger .60 schneurl and an 18 X 6 prop and the other has a Rossi .60 schneurl a and a 20 X 8 prop on it When the weather gets better I will blot them down and try them. One of my favorite things testing engines. I will let you know "smoke test" provides. You know turn it on and see if it smokes. I think the gear ratio is about 2.4 - 1.
