Looking to upgrade to LiPo - Need Some Opinions

Long time lurker of the forums, I have mostly been into RC Airplanes and just recently have bought myself a RC Buggy.

It is a 1/10 scale XSTR Pro Brushless Buggy
with 3300kv motor and 4wd

Right now I have a 2000mAh 7.2V NiMh battery, and I am looking to upgrade to a 7.4 LiPo.

The 2000mAh battery lasts me about 12 minutes of driving before it starts to cut out, I would like to get longer run times mostly and some slight speed increase would be a bonus.

I am wondering if anyone has experience with any of these batteries, and also am looking to pick up the Duratrax Onyx 150 AC/DC LiPo balancing charger to charge them.

Thunder Power 2100mAh 2S 7.4V G6 Pro Lite 25C LiPo

Duratrax LiPo Onyx 2S 7.4V 2000mAh 25C Soft Case

They are all around the same price so I really just want to know which one would be the better buy.

Thanks

Re: Looking to upgrade to LiPo - Need Some Opinions

Honestly, get some lipos from Hobbyking if they still ship here. If not look around but try to get at least 4000mah, that will almost double your running time. I run mostly 5000mah in my 1/10 vehicles.

Also, if your esc does not have it built in, look at getting a low voltage cutoff (LVC) to prevent damage to the lipos as they cannot be run empty like nimh can.

I found when I started running Lipos was when I started breaking things so be prepared with some spare parts. No scientific reason, I just had more things fail after I moved up.

Thanks for the reply, my ESC does have a built in voltage cutoff.

Also what packs do you recommend from Hobby King it looks like they carry Turnigy or Zippy.

Was looking at these two

Also it looks like the connectors on those are not Deans connectors so will they still work?

Take the C rating on the HK lipos with a grain of salt, I'd suggest the higher rated ones myself but those will work with care. You'll have to cut the connectors off and install deans if that's what you're using. Pretty easy to do even with a $20 iron from radio shack.

Re: Looking to upgrade to LiPo - Need Some Opinions

i don't think hobbyking ships LIPOs to Canada anymore. You should definitely double-check with one of their reps. My friend checked earlier this week with hobbypartz, and they said they don't ship LIPOs to Canada anymore.

www.muchhobby.com is another good place to look, as it is local. So, shipping wouldn't be too crazy, it'd be quicker to get to you, and not cross-border. But I'd still check with them to see if they do ship LIPOs.

They still ship lipo but with SwissPost and not HongKong Post. So your battery will get to Switzerland before.

they do ship to canada
as the above post posted, they ship with swisspost and it will take about 2 ~3 weeks
took mine about 12 working days to get to me

but personally i think the lipo's from hobbyking does wonders for me
i got a 5000mAH 20~25C battery
runs a lot better then my stock traxxas 3000mAH battery

the battery for me runs for a almost an hour before my esc cuts it off!
