Twin Help

I have a pair of OS46SF's that I have put together for a twin project. I have looked at the TopFlite DC3 but don't feel this is a good twin entry level. I will scratch build, kit build, or even consider a "hanger rash beauty" that any of you guys might have kicking around. Input please. Thanks.

I don't know if this is before your time, but ..... have you heard of the VK Cherokee?

I had one many moons ago that I flew on a 60 Super Tigre, nice flying airplane!

When I decided to make the move to twins I scratch built a twin engine cherokee (lets call it a comanche ).

It was a great twin trainer, not a scale airplane, but it did get me use to setting up twin engines and it flew well to boot!

The DC-3 is not a trainer, it is scale and has some quirks that you have to hold on and fly it at times.

How about a Cessna Crane?

It was/is a trainer in full scale life.

I don't know about .46 size but I have a set of plans for one that takes two .30's. I thing Don Smith or Don Parsons may have something in a Crane around that size or they may be biger.

Looke here:

Have a look at Wing manufacturing A-26 invader. A friend of mine had it and he said it was not hard to fly. It is perfect for your OS 46 SFs.

You can get these in short kit forms, with full kit.

If you want to scratch build it, I have plans I can copy for you.

For details check out here

I had Cessna crane with electric motors, Would not recommend as a first twin, was hard to fly especially finicky on making turns, only lasted one flight, maybe it was just me, but that is the experience I had with it.

There are very very few twin trainers available .The consencus on RCU is the larger of the two trainers available from WWW.ne-aero.com is the very best around currently.

What about designing your own, or kit bashing something like an ugly stick to a twin? Would make a good first one I think, just something to try out. Take a 60 size stick and...

I think that was in RCM as a construction article a while back (many years ago).

I'll second the Pica duelist for a first entry into twins. I flew a while back and it had no bad habits at all.

Thanks guys. Keep the information coming. Frankly I like the looks of the A-26, but you guys have certainly given me a lot to think about. I will probably start something in the new year. I'm just finishing an "electra" that I've had under my bench in a box for a few years, and then I've got some maintainance work to do on the fleet from this past summer. Also just finished a somthin' extra kit that I put a saito 65 in with flaperons. Should be fun.

John

PS I must be an average builder. A forum from a few weeks ago ran building time from 2 days to 2 months. Takes me 2 weeks to 1 month, but I do like to do a pretty nice job. It took me 2 months to rebuild a TigerCat that I put into the cornfield this summer, but I just love the way that thing flies. Redid it as a 30's style racer with pull/pull, rigging, struts, pants, saito 72.

Does anyone know if they have released the plans for the smaller .15 size duelist yet? I have a pair of hot rossi 15's looking for a home.
