okay I want to charge an 8cell pack.

like this

4 batterys on one side, 4 on the other.

with a 9v lead like this

and hook it up to my super brain 977 with the tamiya connectors.

the batteries are rechargeable NIMH, 2500mah (duracell brand)

so would this be safe?

1) enter 8cells on my charger
2) and charge at 1 amp to be safe? (altho I think they could do 2.5 or 2)

some additional writing on the batt is AA/HR6/DC1500NiMH/1.2v/2500MAH
and under that says standard charge 250ma for 16h but im not sure if this makes a difference..

I can't speak to the 977 but as long as it is capable of charging 8 NiMH cells you should be fine.

I'm guessing that you want to snap the 9V pigtail onto the end of the long skinny battery holders as used in Spektrum and Hitec transmitters.

Make sure the polarities are correct between everything.....

Finally I find that if I charge AA NiMH's at 100-300 mA I get a much better result with no false peaking. Some guys will say you can slam them at a higher current, but I'm only telling you what works for me.

I agree with Narly1... Those AA batts are best charged at a low rate. I charge my 2650 mAh cells at 0.5 A.

okay, great thats what I was hoping.
so for my charger I would obviously enter 8cells.
1amp? and 100-300mA?

anyone familiar with the superbrain jump in (for my understanding please).

also, is their a way to tell what is positive an negative for the ends? I dont use these connectors often.

Hey speedy,

This charge method will work, But becareful about charging higher than .8 amps. .5 to .8 is the max that I charge. Over 1 amp I find the batteries get far too hot, and you will run the risk of melting the battery holder. I have done it...

Second, to test polarity. Hook the 9v lead up to the battery holder and test it on a battery tester to verify. Although the 9v lead is designed to only clip on only one way and the polarity is usually correct.

Happy charging ! This is such a superior way to charge vs. the wall chargers !

I charged my radio batteries all last season this way, with no problem.

kool I am feeling confident about this now.
the wall charger that I have been using is dying, I always wanted to switch over to my 977 but never had the chance. now its time!

I wanted to ask why such a high mA setting? on my big sub c packs I think I use 35 mA, maybe someone could let me know about mA.

I appreciate the responses, been awhile since I logged onto orrc

Hey Speedy,

Here is a bit more info.

Each charger uses slightly different lingo on their screens, but

If charging at 0.5 amps this is the same as 500mA
0.8 amps ... 800mA. etc,

Now the second set of numbers ... is usually mV per cell. Nimh should be set to 5mV per cell. Totalling 35 mV on a 7 cell pack. 30mV per cell on a 6 cell. For your 8 cell Nimh transmitter batts. 8*5 = 40 mV total.

Conversely for Nicad their peak mV per cell is 8mV.

If you need more info on this visit Fastcats webs site, John has posted great info about batteries and battery maintenance there.

I know this is a very old thread, but its mine lol.
I finally got to charging my batteries now that school is done for summer

used the settings of .5 amp, 8 cells and 40mv started the charge and it beeped (finished) after 1 min with a Mah reading of 18.

what am I doing wrong now?

super brain 977 charger still.

Try dropping the charge rate to 100-200 mA and the peak detection voltage to something way lower than 40 mV.
