Steering servo

Ok now that the race season is over and 7+servos later I think I need help. My savage is eating steering servos!

Mind you this is no stock Savage. Its a race ready machine, P3, stock gearing with 2spd tranny. Every servo i have tried fails. It might make 3 5min quals then in the 15min main it will die guaranteed.

I set the endpoints short so it doesn't oversteer, I use a servo saver, I tried almost every servo you could think of and it still eats the darn things. Any help?

Does it have the Savage 25 style steering servo saver or the SS style?

Are you using a 6V battery pack?

What servos have you been trying?

SS style, 6v hump pack, everything including the mg995 (they last the longest) went through 2 hitec5625 (worked excellent for 5 mins each)

the 5625 is more speed than torque. what have you been frying out? and the 995 gears will fit the 5625, I just did that replacement myself and use it for throttle and brake on my FG.

you should look at something with a lot of torque. you need holding power for that beast, even a 5645 is a beefier choice, but I'd look at an Airtronics 358 or something with more torque, 200 oz say.

The 995's are ok but I don't like using them in anything that is fast. I had one glitch out even on throttle in my 4wd 5th and that was scary. Best suited for crawlers that tend to tumble down cliffs and you can carry a few in your pocket to replace them as shredded since they are cheap.

I have run the 645MG's in the Savages without having the type of problems that you are.

Does the steering move freely without the servo connected.
There should be almost no drag anywhere.

What reciever are you using in it?

steering is smooth, even replaced the bushings with bearings. When my servos let go they do it in style, spinning in circles after or cracking cases. If I run the truck easy at the home track they last, but as soon as its in a race, poof!

Hmmmm, I have been running the same 995 in my savage all summer and that included a three day GLORCS race without any problems.

How tight is the servo saver? Is it cranked down all of the way? Mine is set about half way through the adjustment range.

The FLM setup I have on my savage is very similiar and I don't have any issues.

Is there any play in the servo on the mounts?

Could it be exhaust heat related?

Do you have any pics of how the servo is mounted?
