Engine Trouble Pics

So, I took it apart and here's what I have.

This is as far as I can push it through by hand.

There's a scratch on the piston. What do you think of this damage?
Is it enough damage to be causing the Problems? Garbage or what?

There's also a mark in the Cylinder.

I don't see any other damage. The Crank spins fine. The Carb needles and barrel look good.

thats a huge scratch when talking about pistons and the seal they need to make, probably has next to no compression, it is now a fancy keychain

is the wristpin clip still intact on the other side of the piston? just wonderring what went through the engine to cause so much damage

OUCH!

A plug coil may have caused that. I am not sure, but I have seen a similar scratch on a Nitro Star 25 that I had.... and it was caused by dirt.

The wrist pin clips are still in place and I've never broken a plug in this motor.

I didn't find any debris inside.
A little while ago, I crashed into a fence and the filter was ripped off.
That's the only time I think something could have got in.

Well, I guess I just need a new Piston/Sleeve and to be more careful with it.

I'll flush it out with fuel to make sure there's nothing left inside. Is there anything else I should do/check before I put the new P/S in?

I gave it a good look over and I'm pretty sure a new Piston/Sleeve and Rod will fix it.

Do I need a new rod? I made some marks on the bushing with pliers it can be seen in the first pic?

and another question before I order the parts. There are some small marks on the Head Button from whatever was in the engine. Is it ok if I don't replace that? The head button shouldn't be contacting anything in the engine, so I don't think it needs to be replaced?

Can barely be seen in the pic. Thanks alot!

Button should be fine

Definitely replace the rod
they arent expensive and they do break
and also the pin and especially the clips.
remember all that stuff goes up and down at 30 or sometimes 40 thousand rpm they see a LOT of stress

I just found that HPI has an Engine Exchange Program.
http://www.hpiracing.com/engineexchange/

For the price of a rebuild, I can get a new engine... $65.

There isn't a chunk missing from there, it's just the way the light hits it. It's not a great picture.

I put it back together and I'm going to try and get a couple more runs from it.

This engine still runs. I got it started once, but it's just too much work with the pullstart.

If I had a Roto Start, it would start up no problem.
