I would love to get my hands on one of these for my twin brother. He has use of only one arm and loves to fly. Right now i have to land and take off for him because he cant use the elevator and rudder at the same time because they are on different sticks. We did some research and found that to get one made is incredibly exensive. If ony one could help us out we would be eternally greatfull.

Hi Mark,

Why don't you go to the "WANTED" section here at RCC and explain your circumstances, there may be one out there looking for a good home. Even if you can get one that needs repair, it would be much cheaper than buying a new one or having one custom made.

You may even want to bid on the one at e bay.

Holy smokes did I fall asleep and wake up in the future? It didn't seem all that long ago that single stick radios were quite popular.

I purchased an Ace MicroPro 8000 radio single stick system that had very advanced features for a computer radio and that was only in 1992. I thought it was a great idea and at the time thought that it would be more like the controls of a fullsized airplane to fly with single stick! Throttle on the right side of the box, ailerons and elevator as per normal on the stick and twist the large knob for rudder. It did seem easier to coordinate turns and apply rudder in this fashion. I used it twice and it proved to be a desaster for me. I could not get use to the throttle slider and kept hitting the trim leaver just beside it causing some very interesting harry moments in my landings. I returned it in exchange for the regular setup radio. I believe Ace left the business or went out of business a year or two later but they did have at least two or three different models of single stick radios as far as I know, and that was only about 10 years ago...not 25 or 35 years ago!

I, for some reason, haven't even thought about single sticks, then last summer, a friend that I hadn't seen in a couple of years showed up at my old club field with a new plane carrying an Ace MicroPro single stick radio. It was considered almost a novelity as a lot of the newer members flocked around him to get the scoup on this "new" inovation in RC..LOL!

I will have to do some checking around now as this has grabbed my curosity again. Do any of the current manufacturers produce a single stick transmitter today that anyone knows of? In thinking about the joystick application, I think it would be relatively simple to install a joystick handle or remove the electronics from the radio and assemble them inside one of the larger regular joysticks.

Interesting topic and would make for an interesting project, if only to see if it can be done! Not sure I personally would like to fly one of my babies with this setup but it certainly would be something different for sure!

What got me onto it was the fact that I found it much more natural, enjoyable to fly planes on the computer with the joystick rather than the two sticks. Why not fly my RC planes the same way.

i totaly agree almost willling to put money on it that i could fly better with single stick.
