Power panel voltage

I want to use a 14.4 volt nicad pack for both power panel and electric starter.

I know people who do this but some say that the 14.4 volt pack will damage your power panel.

I have used a motorcycle battery before and I am certain I am not alone in that category.

Since a fully charged wet cell is 13.8 vots it would seem that the 14.4 volt nicad pack is a good substitute.

I currently have a 14.4 volt Makita pack. I cut the bottom off a Makita flashligh and re-wired it to use as a polarized connector for both my charger and the power panel.

If you use a power panel what voltage do you run to it.

Thanks

Re: Power panel voltage

Ken,
You should be okay if it is an older type with large resistors on the glow plug part. If it is a transistor type I would open the back and check for a voltage regulater or something that brings it down to the current required for the plug. The pump and starter outputs should not be a problem.

Re: Power panel voltage

Hi John

It's not the older type but the guys that I see using wet cells or 14.4 volts don't seem to have any problems with theirs.

I would check the voltage regulator if I new what to look for and how to do it.
I guess the worst that could happen is that the power panel might burn out.
Since I do have a couple of extra ones I am not too worried.

Thanks for the advice and I will see if a friend can give me the answer to the voltage question.

Thanks

Ken
