Gary, The type shown in post #13 above may not be the best for you. I know you have larger gas engines. As an example from my experience: G26 carb needs 30 in-lbs ( 3.4 n-M) and spark plug needs 100 in-lbs. This is from the Zenoah manual.

You may be better off with one like this: http://www.flexibleassembly.com/1501MRMH

Re: torque for bolts

Ed,
I like the looks of the wrench you suggest. Checked out the website but did not see any ratings. What is the range of torque settings? Is it a standard 1/4" drive or is it hex drive?

It is 1/4 sq drive. The range is 0-36 in-lbs.

Re: torque for bolts

Any of you people getting your torque wrenches calibrated. They can go out by quite a bit over time. Make sure you always back them off after use as well.

Re: torque for bolts

Ok, now I'm getting more confused as we go along here.

In order to calculate the torque on a particular application, say an engine like the OS 1.60 FX, I want to bolt and properly torque the head back on...you have to know the exact type of material your torqueing a bolt into?? Where/how do you get all this specific info?

Is this really all that difficult or am I missing something and just making it difficult?

As for torque tools, are they all expensive? Ed, the one in the website you listed is like $100. I've seen others listed and they were about the same, all around the $100 and up!

I suppose if you into racing big time then you could justify the expense but for someone who just wants to occasionally do an engine repair, would it really be worth it?

Re: torque for bolts

I would go with the weakest aluminum.

Remember we're talking about sand cast aluminum, not machined from billet.

We're also talking about model engines, not GTB racing engines.
