Re: Cause of crashes?
I've had a few good crashes that have done planes in. One was loss of orientation and didn't have the sense to let go of the sticks for a second. It was "I can save it! I can save it!" right until it hit the ice, lol.
Another good one was mechanically induced but could have been avoided. I had an elevator let go on a full throttle low pass over the runway. The tail had been from another airframe that had been crashed and I never thought to check if all the CA hinges were still intact. It wouldn't have gone in if I had of checked it over better. I've had a couple close calls on mechanical failures too. I had a servo arm fall off on an elevator half on my 50cc. The screw had backed out somehow and it didn't catch it. Luckily I was able to land it easily enough on one half on 3D rates. I also had a servo extension go faulty on me. That one I couldn't really have seen coming because the wire wasn't visibly broken in any way. Luckily the wire decided to keep contact long enough for me to land it after I discovered the problem while in the air. Dead-sticks have been my biggest foe over the last season. Our main club field really only has a runway and behind it is all sand pit. If you dead-stick you better be able to make it back to the runway or you're looking at bigger damage. I definitely had some very poorly timed/placed dead-sticks last year. The plane survived them mostly intact and I've been able to repair it each time. Now the motor is being serviced at DA.

Re: Cause of crashes?
"Dumb Thumbs" seems to be one of the most common from what I have witnessed.

Re: Cause of crashes?
I remember one crash when I knocked the transmitter outta Propworn's hand hitting his antenna during our indoor... he said something like "thanks Buckethead" while scrambling to get it off the gym floor...his plane crashed too.LOL. Funny now, but it wasn't at the time.....
