What to expect form Canpar?

I am setting up shipping options for my web store. Currently, I have Canada Post, which by the way offers real-time shipping cost calculation, but some of my plane kits are too large for CP to accept. So, I am looking at Canpar. I've read some posts on this forum reporting good experiences with Canpar's service.

I submitted my business profile to Canpar and surely enough a Canpar person called me within 48 hours after the submission as promised on their web site.

Then odd things happened to me: I asked the person several questions concerning Canpar rates and they are totally ignored in the person's reply as if I hadn't asked these questions. I asked again, and again they were ignored. So I thought maybe these questions were not supposed to be directed to a sales person and therefore I sent the questions to their customer service. 2 weeks after, I still haven't got a response from anyone.

I am new to dealing with shipping companies in Canada. Is this kind of experience a norm that I should get used to?

Here is a part of my questions:

> I've checked the downloadable Kilorate file against the online calculator
> (http://www.canpar.ca/en/ship/RateCalculatorAction.do) and found the rates
> are different. For example, for sending 1 kilo to zone 7 from my location
> (l8p 1j7), the calculator says $11.83 while the file says $11.39. Which
> one is correct?

Re: What to expect form Canpar?

I ran mail order across Canada for 16 years (until 2001) and used Canpar for most of the shipments with no problems at all. Only one pkg was stolen and that was on Vancouver Island and Canpar made it right in fair time in my opinion.

They are not the fastest (but they are also the most reasonable priced) and 'jobber' out some of their deliveries in the remote areas but over all my experience was 100% positive.

Wink Re: What to expect form Canpar?

Used Canpar and the rates are much cheaper than Fedup and Upless....but they are about 20% slower to deliver...but they do deliver. Actually I went to the UPS store and used the Canpar there. Hmmmmmm.....wonder who owns them?

Re: What to expect form Canpar?

not that much slower, just shipped a pkg across the country, DHL was 4 days and Canpar was 5 days at less than 1/2 the price for this particulat shipment.
