I don't mind at all Brad.

Futaba is only for those that want to fly..The rest are all spectators, as their fine electronics choices are all back to the manufacturer on recalls!!

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

I am vacuum bagging the wings and stabs and so looking at a few vacuum systems right now. I like the Venturi type system that is available as a kit from
Www.Veneer supplies.com
This uses a regular compressor and a Venturi system to create a vacuum which can pull up to 24mmHg!! Only need about 6 for our purposes but nothing like having the extra oomph when needed!

So my question is can I get West Systems epoxy in Canada and what's everyone doing for e bags?

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

West System epoxy is available at Lee Valley (how appropriate )

The bags are a little harder to come by. I borrowed the ones I used for the Dalton wings.

Aerospace Composites has lots of supplies for vacuum bagging.

On another note, you could look into building your own vacuum system. Lots of info around the web on home made systems. FWIW, the system we used for the Dalton's was home made. I recently had a friend build me a system like the one I borrowed and it cost me ~$100.

Cheers,
Dave

Regarding West System, most marine supply stores carries it and all the accesories. The feather light filler is pretty good that west system produces.

Lee... West System is incredible! For my final-year Engineering project at Waterloo, I built a Monocoque body for the FSAE race car and vacuum bagged prepeg CF over a honeycomb structure! For the bagging material we just used sheets of thin vapour barrier plastic with plasticine to seal the 3 edges... Worked like a charm!!!

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

Thanks for the info on the epoxy. The kit for vac bagging includes most everything except for some ABS tubes to make a reservoir and costs around $150 bucks. It gets driven off my air compressor and will pull down a 4by8 foot sheet to 25 inches of Hg!! I was thinking of vapor barrier sheet for the bags and will do a few experiments as I have vac bagged a few things before in my pattern days.

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

Lee,
For all your vacuum bagging needs try Composites Canada in m
mississauga (just google them). They have everything you need and ship same day, prices are reasonable.

For vacuum pumps, the aerospace composites is good, i have had one for the past 20 years. The venturi ones work but are noisy. If you invest in a pump, you will appreciate it.

I actually just sold my aerospace one last year and bought an industrial pump, but it is mainly for veneering at work... I needed more volme than the ACP pump had. But the ACP worked flawlessly for many years, and continues to do so with the guy who bought my shop in KL.

Composites Canada has all the glass and carbon cloths, epoxies, fillers, bagging supplies, etc. Been dealing with them for many years.
