FTL26 gas engines or XY26 experiences?

Have any of you guys tried the FTL26 or XY26 gas engines?

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...0&ParentCat=55

I have a KMP Tigercat that I'm trying to decide on the engines for. I was looking at the SPE 26 but I found these ones tonight, they are super cheap, what is the quality like? Are they reliable? I don't need the most super powerful 26's on the market, but they will be going in a twin so reliability is essential.
Thanks in advance!

Jeremy

No experience but that FTL26 looks pretty sweet - and more so when you see the cost.

Barstock case and lugs too.

WHere is that shop located the link is from?

Re: FTL26 gas engines or XY26 experiences?

A buddy at our club flew the SPE 26, said he had various troubles getting it running properly (I'm not sure what it was exactly). Then bought an FTL to put in a big Citabria, it sounds and runs great. I'll be looking at the FTL for a 1.20-sized Spitfire in the future.

Thats all I know about them.....

Re: FTL26 gas engines or XY26 experiences?

Thanks for the info Breeze,
Andrew, it looks like Hobby City is United Hobbies from Hong Kong. I saw the "Hobby City" ad in the latest Model Airplane News magazine. I guess for the price it might be worth checking them out. I'm a little concerned about the power though. They aren't swinging a very big prop from what I've read, wondering if it will be enough for the tigercat.

Re: FTL26 gas engines or XY26 experiences?

Jeremy,
The FTL looks a LOT like the SPE. I wouldnt be surprised if they used the same piston/cylinder.

I tested the SPE 26 a while back. I found it to be a really nice running engine and had absolutely no issued with it. I dont have my test data handy but I can post it when I get back to my desk top on Monday.

I remmeber it ran a bit under what I got on the Zenoah G26 but I cant remember exact figures...

ANyone got a copy of the FLy RC mag handy that has my review in it??

Re: FTL26 gas engines or XY26 experiences?

Andrew,
I think I read that review. I'm sure the Zenoah has more power, but it's also twice the money. I'm also looking at that FTL45, I need to measure my cowl and maybe it will fit in there for only $30 more than the 26. It's the reliability that is more important to me than all out power. The extra weight of the 45 would be fine in this plane as it needs a ton of nose weight anyway. Another guy on RCU said it was the same internals as the SPE26, just a different crankcase so it probably is the same.
The Tigercat from what I've read flies well on the Zenoah 26's, or Saito 1.50's, so I'm just wondering if the FTL will have the same grunt as a Saito 1.50 will. Seems to be a fairly small prop that they're running (From what I've read, usually just a 17x6)
