New LiPo arrived dead

I just got a new Thunder 6C 2100 mah 3 cell pack today by mail order. Went to charge it up and the charger showed error. All settings correct. Then tested the battery voltage and it was like 3V! A very sick 3V as it would not light a flashlight bulb. Has anyone ever had this experience?
I'm sure my vendor will look after me but I'm just curious as to what could have gone wrong.

Hmmm. They would be older (6C) but the self-discharge rate should be so slow that I can't imagine them losing much of the standard storage SOC of 50%.

My guess would be they were significantly discharged at some point in their life.

BTW. If the voltage of your LiPos is already measuring low, don't connect them to a load!

The plastic bag was sealed and the ends of the red and black wires were taped. Looked factory fresh to me but what do I know. This is my second LiPo. Had no problems with the first with about fifty flights.
Have since seen the factory info on their batteries and they say not to attempt charging a 3 cell pack if V is below 9.9. From now on I'll check the voltage before anything. Better yet, have it checked before you buy, especially by mail order.

I had a similar problem; turned out one of the tabs was not soldered correctly. My LHS re-soldered and the pack was fine.

Something you can have checked hopefully
