nobody said it was a straight line speed of 200mph. I've had a DD, the Magnum, and a whiplash, out of a dive the Magnum was probably fastest, but the DD does not have a thick wing by any stretch. I would not dispute 200mph with a dust and a K&B ducted fan engine, I find it unlikely on a regular basis but possible for sure. The Magnum would not hit 200 in a straight line, it would out of a hell of a dive, but then it's a bigger airframe. Anyway, doesn't really matter, even 180 with a plane as small as a dust is scary fast :P

One of the fastest 'production' airframe available is the WestonUk MagnumR, faster than a DD or Wiplash.

A MagnumR with a Q500 engine running a 8.75x9.0 at over 23000 rpm (in flight) barely put 200mph...The DD is cheap and fast, but the wing is to thick to do 200+mph...

I was running my DD with my Q500 engine and it was not doing 200mph...

I'm about to run my MagnumR with the Jett Q500 and the 8.75x9.0w prop. It weight 4lbs. I'm expecting about 180mph.

If you take speed out of a dive, it's a different thing, it's just matter of gravity...
The measured speed was coming out of a dive on a poorly tuned engine. Also, keep in mind that we were running 25% fuel and it was also done at 30 feet ASL.

Dynamic soaring

gees and ive seen planes with no engines going over 300mph dynamic soaring using only wind for power.

I wouldnt really say it would break up at 250mph

DD

I see lots of questions about how fast this plane is and several witnesses saying they saw it fly 200mph. There are two ways to verify it. Come to Moncton and see it or buy it and fly it. If it won't do 200 and it's still in one peice I'll buy it back!

The runs were made in a slight dive but traveling at that rate you don't fly it 10 feet off the deck. It covers way too much sky really quick.

High Speed

I believe the DD would do close to 150mph. I have seen a small delta coroplast plane with an OS25 and a pipe do over 100mph myself on radar. A plane with an ducted fan engine in that rpm range, with any amount of torque must be able to pull a few more mph.
