I've had lots of experience fly fixed tail wheel, steerable tail wheel, tail skid, no skid..........they all work fine for a model the size you have. Go fly it and have fun.

I have fixed, steerable, castoring and just skids. On a grass runway the difference is not that big. On a hard surface you want it steerable or you get a lot of ground looping on take off, landing is not so critical.

Re: Fixed tailwheel steerable?

See this is the kind of feedback I was looking for ... from people who actually have a plane with fixed tail gear. I know the solution to this potential problem ... I just needed to hear from the folks with experience with this if it could be a problem. Thanks guys!

Re: Fixed tailwheel steerable?

But then I have very little patience for driving a plane around on the ground. They are meant to be flown!

Re: Fixed tailwheel steerable?

If its fixed to the rudder, when the rudder moves, the wheel does the same, no?

Re: Fixed tailwheel steerable?

We have a guy in the club with a SIG Senior who uses a castering tail wheel with 360 degree movement. He reports no problems with that arrangement and has recommended it to others. Good luck, Dzl

My Sig Seniorita is set up the same way. On grass you would never know it's not hooked to a servo. On pavement she is a holy terror for ground loops!
