I'm stunned!! Your Beaver will belong in a museum, after you have flown it of course!!
I can't wait to see the next installment, Peter!! Please keep us in the loop.

I second that.

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

Hello Peter: Our Funfly has been cancelled for today! The weather left the field and road a mess!
We will be posting a new date soon! Maybe you can attend later.

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

Thanks for the news. It makes me glad that I decided Friday not to attend due to the weather forecast.
Keep me advised of the new date

Peter

Hi Peter: Yes, it would have been a wasted trip, weatherwise. You could have come to my place and talk RC for the day!! Or a week
General consensus is to try for a July date, I'll post asap! flytwice

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver - Part 15

Dorsal Fin

I have been very pleased with the accuracy of the kit in most areas. However the kit plans and parts have the dorsal fin with curved sides. However, all the other information that I have on Beavers shows the dorsal fin with flat sides. It was easy to just follow the plans, and make new ribs for the dorsal fin. I sheeted the fin in 1/32” ply to minimize sanding and finishing balsa.

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver - Part 16

Wing Mounting:

Another small change. The wing mounting uses a tube, which is a strong and simple system. Most wing tube mounting systems use bolts through the fuselage side into the wing root to lock the wing in place. The problem I had was, that with the finished interior, the “locking“ bolts were not accessible. Instead, I built a metal tab that extends from the fuse side into the wing root, and have a 4-40 bolt that comes up from the bottom of the wing, through the tab and into a blind nut to lock the wing in place. The bolt head is recessed into a stub of ¼” tube.

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver -Part 17

Pitot Tube:

The Pitot is ¼” dia brass tube, inset into a 9/32” tube in the wing. It is removable, and held in place with a rare earth magnet, holding a steel rod inset into the removable part.
The front tip was made from aluminum tubes inset into the ¼” tube.

It is interesting to note that most Beavers have a fin on the front of the Pitot, but not CF-FHB.
