Since I started with the question about using Dual Receivers, it appears that I shoulds clarify a few points and ask the question more directly.

Remember weight was not the issue but saving a 10K plane was.

Please go to Message # 664 where I have rewritten the mpost to clarify it better.

Brian

Damm when I put in spaces between the headings it eliminates them when I Post. See post # 664

I will redo it for better clarity.

Re: BBT Extreme 43% Edge w/DA200 on PIPES!!!

Clarifying the post #661
I am using two (2) JR Power Safe Receivers. Each receiver uses two batteries (total of 4) and if the switches do fail it AUTOMATICALLY supplies power to the receiver.

The easy stuff!

RECEIVER A
Throttle Servo
Left Rudder Servo

RECEIVER B
Choke Servo
Optical Kill Switch
Right Rudder Servo

I am using a SWB 2X Self Adjusting Tray so if one Servo fails the other servo can still driver the rudder (enough to land).

THE HARD STUFF TO FIGURE OUT!

OPTION 1 4 servos for the wing, - 2 servos for the elevator

RECEIVER A
Left Outboard Aerilon Servo
Right Inboard Aerilon Servo
Left Elevator Servo

RECEIVER B
Right Outboard Servo
Left Inboard Servo
Right Elevator Servo

The question is what happens if a servo or receiver fails on one side of the wing. Will you still be able to control the plane (only 1 servo per wing) this way (again only enough to land)?

OPTION 2A

RECEIVER A
Left Outboard Aerilon Servo
Left Inboard Aerilon Servo
LEFT Elevator Servo

RECEIVER B
Right Outboard Aerilon Servo
Right Inboard Aerilon Servo
RIGHT Elevator Servo

OPTION 2B

RECEIVER A
Left Outboard Aerilon Servo
Left Inboard Aerilon Servo
RIGHT Elevator Servo

RECEIVER B
Right Outboard Aerilon Servo
Right Inboard Aerilon Servo
LEFT Elevator Servo

What is the best method to control a plane when 1 receiver fails (brownout or no signal).
Is it best to control all of the surfaces of the plane (right wing right elevator) or have right wing and left elevator under control.

Hope somebody can help me with this hook up delema. I have hooked up both of my receivers using Option 1, OPTION 2A and OPTION 2B and they all funtion. SO what is the best system to choose??
Thanks,

Brian

Here's my thoughts Brian.....

The difference between 2A and 2B is just the elevator connection, correct? Either will work and I don't think there's a right or a wrong!! I've seem planes fly with one elevator (and even 3D with one elevator, right Jack Marcotte??), LOL!!!

I've never seen an RX fail, but I have seen a battery or switch fail to the Rx. If an Rx looses power, the servo will be limp. However, if something internally fails in an Rx (ie: as in an Rx that is powered on, but not bound), then the servos may stays rigid in one position (I don't know this, but it could happen). If that were to happen, your Option 1 would either cause major binding and you'd either break a linkage or not have aileron control (could be a problem depending on where the failed Rx locks the servo, if locking is possible.

Therefore, I have always stayed with Option 2 - I've personally flown with one aileron and seen others fly with one aileron, just the response is less.

Hope that helps!

Cheers

Trev

Re: BBT Extreme 43% Edge w/DA200 on PIPES!!!

Trevor thanks for a good answer.

I have decided will go with Option 2B. Unless we here from others as to why other options are better. As a retired engineer, I ayways prefer answers that have some reasoning behind them, not just an opinon, (but sometimes that is all that is available).

Now to just get my plane from CARF.

I just got the prop, 32" diameter 18" Pitch It's HUGE! I am just finishing my engine test stand.

A 32x18!!! - Very cool!!!
