Satio fa100 help please
Hey,I recently got a satio fa100 engine in with some stuff I bought. This is my first 4 stroke and I plan to put in my h9 spitfire. But I havent had it running yet ,when I tried to spin it over with my starter it stops on the compression stroke.I can spin it around with a stick, but when I remove the glow plug it spins freely. The only sign of life I got was a puff of white smoke back throught the carb. and one of the push rod tube was bent a little, but I straten it and the value does move .Any ideas what I should check first?
I also got a plane with a satio 91 in it and that engine spin freely with the starter(I havent had that one running),but that one is a winter project. Any help would be great I would it running soon. |

Re: Satio fa100 help please
It is probably stopping because your battery on your started doesn't have enough juice to spin her over. Also make sure the throttle is only 1/3 open or less is even better. Set your high speed at 3 turns to ensure a rich setting and you can adjust after you have the engine running.
Be careful....4 strokes are a bit more dangerous to operate than a 2 stroke. Bill

Re: Satio fa100 help please
lexxman, be sure to back the prop up to the compression stroke to give your starter a chance to spin up past the power stroke. Hope I'm saying this correctly. I know my starter will stall out unless I rotate the prop backwards to the compression . I also start the starter just before I engage the spinner too.

Re: Satio fa100 help please
Saitos are known for a bit more compression, so need a good, powerful starter to get them spinning. I also find that with the throttle at idle the motor is harder to start. Normally I crack the throttle open a bit.
Be very careful to avoid running higher throttle while yorself or anyone else is in front of the prop. If the mixture goes lean the motor will stop instantly, likely throwing the prop with a good amount of energy. I lost several hubs, including the safety sets supplied with the motor until I figured out the proper settings on my first Saito.

I have a saito 100 in my cub, I know what you mean about the starter, and they really kick back, what I do is give it lots of prime, give it a bit of throttle and spin the prop backwards against compression using a chicken stick, starts real easy. Jim.

Re: Satio fa100 help please
Until I purchased my dynatron starter the only way I could start my midsize 4strokes was to back the prop against the compression stroke so that when I went to start the motor I had some inertia to get past the following compression stroke.
Alot of people start them by hand and actually give a light flip backwards against the compression stroke, but I never had any success with it and I like my fingers..... What orientation is the motor in as it is always tough to get the tank level with the needle valve especially if your inverted, this leads to siphoning and hydro lock. When I plan an inverted installation I use a cline regulator to prevent the issue.

Re: Satio fa100 help please
The guy in the video makes it look too easy. Thanks for all the tips,I hope to get it started this weekend.I will charge my batteys and backit up to the compression stroke and see how it good. The motor is mounted inverted,I had a 2 stoke in the plane. But I was having trouble getting it to run right.
zdsh13 ya I like my fingers too ,I will use a starter or stick thanks. |

Re: Satio fa100 help please
If your inverted installation starts to give you grief with siphoning and hydrolocking I highly recommend a cline regulator.
