So, what deals did you find at Toledo!

As in past years, I always make up a list of things I intend to purchase at the Toledo Expo. On Friday afternoon, I walk the floor and pick up every item on my list. Then on Saturday, I do the walk around again but this time spending time at the booths I find interesting, talking to the vendor and picking up some info to review later.

I had a very short list this year despite the Canadian dollar being almost on par with the US dollar. On my list was:

1.) 3 2oz bottles of medium C/A glue. $4 ea. or 3 for $10.
2.) 4 feet of AA battery pack shrink wrap - @ .50 cents a foot.
3.) 2 Lipo charge leads w/gold banana jacks and Ultra Deans. Got both for $10
4.) 2 US gals. of 10% Wild Cat synthetic glow fuel @ $12 pr. gal.

On my "Check Out" list was a conversion kit for .25 glow to electric. I found a great deal from "Himax". I purchased the 30A combo pack that included the HC3522-990 Brushless motor, a 55 Amp Thunderbird ESC, and an APC 11 X 7e prop. The motor comes with a complete mounting pack and a prop adaptor/spinner hub. The whole package was $90.00.

I had purchase an old Ace RC "Air Scout" 54" span kit from Bill, aka "RetiredVTT, a nice gentleman here on RCCanada over a year ago now. This was the same plane that I got my wings with some 19 years ago. Instead of using a .15 to .25 glow, I want to build it using an electric conversion setup. This combo should be just perfect for this little plane.

That's it for this years' Toledo purchases for me.

What kind of deals did you purchase this year? I'm sure others besides my self would find it interesting to see what people bought this year, so please share!

I agree Gary... there were so many people selling CA that the price was almost half of last year's prices. I use Ontario Adhesive's Roket tho. All my Zap and Bob Smith glue hardened up from last year....gone.
I only bought some Sullivan stuff for my RCGUYS Decathlon and got three of the RCFlyer Magazine hats for $1 each.
...most of my bargains came when we stopped at Prop Shop in Mich.

I didn't get to go this year

Oh well, I saved some money, and wasn't too tired out by the long drive to go to work today. (I managed to earn just short of a G note as a 'consultant' by being available, so i guess I can't bitch too much.)

$12.00/gal......cripes! I just picked up 2 gals of 10% Coolpower from my local hobbystore and it set me back $26.00/gal out here in good old Sask.

Yeah, fuel was a great deal at the show. I like synth fuel but had I opted for a synth/castor mix, it would have been $10 US per gal. I only intend on flying combat using glow engines and they are .25 OS FX engines, which are very economical using glow fuel. Had I intended on using larger 2 and 4 strokes, I would have purchased a couple of cases at that price for sure.

Imagine, only $40 to $48 per case of 4 US gals. when here at the LHS its something like $26 per US gal. That's quite a savings when you consider NO tax and the US/CAN dollar was pretty much on Par for the show this year!

Re: So, what deals did you find at Toledo!

among the deals I got, I found a booth that was selling 2oz foam friendly CA for $8 (everyone else was 18-20 for 2 oz)

And as usual, the Fox booth always had a good price on a card of glow plugs, so I picked up one(12 per card) for 28 bucks!

Re: So, what deals did you find at Toledo!

Seems like a long drive to buy a couple of bottles of glue. I stayed home and flew all weekend long.
