hey guys. Just about to start my next project. I bought a CMP 140 size P-40 NIB off a gent here on RCC. Only problem is the plane was designed for a 120 Nitro. This means the engine bay was designed to only except a rail mount engine. NO! I dont want to put a DLE20cc in it.. I want to put my DLE30cc Rearcarb in her. This is going to be a bit of work as you will see in the photos.

stay tuned

Trevor

You don't know Trevor, Just fine isn't good enough.
Your finally going to use that 30, About time time.
A pits muffler looks like it would go right in the cowl too. The one at Himodel adds another 300 rpm and is only $30.00

Hi Jim,
Its funny.
This Trevor and another Trevor we know , have similar traits.
They both like to push the envelope, and won't settle for stock design

Must be something to the name

Im sure the 20cc will fly it just fine...that's it though... JUST fine. My dear old dad was kind enough(and Im sure he didnt mind)to break in my 30cc on his Decathalon last year. I have it.. so Ill use it

Re: P-40 140size converted to gas

Well the plan is back to normal. By that I mean the Pitts muffler I have wont work. Going to have to go with the SlimLine after all.

First thing I had to do was cut away enough material to drop the motor into place and make sure it is true. I had to enlarge and center the hole for the spinner shaft. Finding were the fire wall goes on the top was easy, however finding its location on the bottom under all the ply took a litle ingannuity. I placed several dots on the bottom and then ligned up the stand offs with a straight edge and noted were on the dots it landed. I am now ready to form a firewall and install, being sure to leave room for the 1/4 rubber mounts I will be using.

Re: P-40 140size converted to gas

If you do a lot of retro fits as I do.. I suggest you buy one of thease tool. I simply love it! It alows you to cut straight down into tight areas that you couldnt get at with most other tools.
