I too will state join the local club. There is usually a cost involved in joining a MAAC sanctioned organization, but in the long run it is one of the best investments you can make.

The advantages are:

They will likely be willing and able to help and welcome a new member. Most of us would like to teach what we have learned over the years and help others avoid the same mistakes.

Their experience will be invaluable in teaching you the rules and regulations we must apply, the equipment they find that works and sources that may be at first difficult to locate on your own. In fact, I would not doubt they could be convinced to find something in spares that is just what you need.

These clubs also fly at sites that already have approval and you would then be under the MAAC insurance coverage. Not sure where you are from, but the US and Canada seem to thrive on litigation, (just watch all the lawyer commercials on daytime TV or look through the phone book!).

In the end, you will make lots of new friends that share your interest.

Re: Need Help

What you have to do is get everybody's opinion, do a lot of research and make up your own mind. Most people giving advice think they know best. Some sales outfits like "www.banggood.com" at the bottom of the page for a certain item will list the honest opinion of actual purchasers.
