Tester for normal servos - Not digital

I have a number of regular Futaba servos.
No need to test functioning. I know they all work because I plug them in, and they all operate.

But, , , For example:
I plug in 2 servos as if it were flaps.
They work, but one might be ahead of the other.

I did a search for testers, and only saw devices that would make them work.
I can do that just by plugging them in, , , yes they all work, no need to buy a tester for just that.

Can a servo be tested to see which ones are starting to die?
How do I know which servo should be thrown out?

Re: Tester for normal servos - Not digital

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure if this will help, but Hobby King has someting called a Servo Doctor. It allows you to exercise a servo, you can also set the pulse time. It comes with a sevo lead that allows you to plug in 3 servos and watch how they perform side by side. It can also allows the option to plug your servo into a gyro for testing.

You may want to go to the site and do a search for "Servo Doctor" or servo tester and read up on it and see if it will do the trick.

I hope this helps.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne

Re: Tester for normal servos - Not digital

I found this tester from Vexacontrol.com ($75.00 US)

http://www.vexacontrol.com/xciter_details_1.html
http://www.vexacontrol.com/forms/ser..._ef_manual.pdf

It looks like I need something that checks Dead-Band.

I havn't seen anything else that does this.

I wonder if it might be available someplace on Canada?

only 10$ S & H seems like a good deal. from buying a lot of bits from the US, I've noticed a lot of firms now making the S&H cheaper rather than using it as a revenue source.

Re: Tester for normal servos - Not digital

The only other servo tester that might fit the bill is the AEO-RC S1 Servo Tester.

http://www.aeorc.com/english/?product-283.html

Here is the manual:

http://www.aeorc.com/download/manual...al%20(ENG).pdf

This is the same unit as the 'Servo Doctor' that HK sells. Best price I've seen is from Hobbypartz:

Right on the mailing charges. I keep saying to them " I would like to buy from you BUT your mailing charges are too high" . They finally see the light of day and then give the buyer more and better shipping options eventually. All we as a customer have to do is keep at them. I will always buy locally even if I have to pay a bit more BUT not almost $3 ( including tax) for a piece of 1/16 music wire !

When I want to check out a pair of servos ie for split elevators or flaps ; I use my radio system; a Y-connector and a pair of dollar store protractors/degree wheels to check and make sure that they are moving at the same number of degrees each in order to keep both sides balanced. One time I did find a brand new servo that never did center right and was out 4 degrees. Sent it back for repair AFTER being on the shelf for 2+ years and got free warrantee service on it.
