How was your year of flying!

I was a happy Pilot this year and got in some serious flying. Weather wasn't the best here til first week July. But once I could get going I was out there. Was able to fly with the guy's on the weekends and through the week occasionally with one other retiree and when he wasn't there I had quite a few days on my own. I am hoping next year will be even better! I flew 2 birds this year that have come home all in one piece. Hopefully will get in even some more days here or there before the weather changes. All my planes have nitro engines, long live Glow.

Re: How was your year of flying!

Too dang short!

But then, isn't it always?

Honestly, I can't complain. Didn't get out as much as I'd liked, but had some really good days.

Re: How was your year of flying!

I flew more this year than the last 2 combined, (using up some of the accumulated fuel) so have to say pretty good. Weather was much better and the field was dry for most of the season. Only problem was a lack of lawn equipment that has now been addressed.

To date none of the aircraft came home in a bag or box. Yahoo!

Was also able to get a few hangar queens airborne and problems sorted out, one being Rare Bear. With a few more flights will be comfortable bringing it to meets next season.

Re: How was your year of flying!

That annoying landscape job in the back yard is finished, (except for trees if I can convince the wife). Have to say, 44 truckloads is a LOT of stuff to move! That and the crappy weather caused more good flying days to go by than I wanted.

Hopefully I can finish some projects this winter that will be fun to try at the field next season. Some have been pushed to the back of the queue for far too long and others just did not make it to the field in deference to my faves.

That is, if I don't see something I absolutely have to have at the London Swap Meet in a few weeks.......

Re: How was your year of flying!

Didn't get out nearly as much as I would have liked to. A 10 day respiratory infection that was too gross to describe kept me from feeling 100% for over a month afterwards. Hopefully the snow stays away for a while.

Re: How was your year of flying!

Made it to a couple events this year, but no competitions. Have only flown 3 planes, the pure glider was only flown one day, but 2 gassers drank up fuel on 164 flights at home!

If it doesn't snow this winter, that's fine in my books. Was bone dry 'til the third week of July, then a bit of rain with extreme hot and cold cycles. I'm a farmer so I'm an expert at beakin' about the weather! ROFL

Re: How was your year of flying!

I had a a great summer of flying. I flew a little bit of everything all summer long. Mostly electrics, with the odd nitro. I didnt think I would ever see that day!

The more I fly electrics, the more I love them. This summer I converted a 91 Four-stroke Norseman floatplane to electric and the performance is out of this world.(will post a build thread on this project this winter when (if) I find the time.

Just last week I put my 120 four-stroke TF mustang on the workbench for an electric swap. Winter project!!!

I hope to fly a little longer this fall. I only wish we could get a few more months of good weather

Re: How was your year of flying!

I flew a lot this summer. Went to a few events...lots of fun. Everything came home in the same number of pieces they went in.

Tomorrow morning taking truck and trailer and heading to Florida (7 day drive) to fly at Frank Tiano's 12 o' clock high and the weekend before, attending Mac Hodges Rally of Eagles in Georgia. Be gone for 3 weeks.
Taking the big Waco...no room in the van for anything else.

Cheers,
Dave.
