Bud Nossan P-51 Mustang

A buddy of mine has come across a Bud Nossan P-51. It was built and covered some years ago but never flown. Looks to be fairly well built. All up wieght less servos, reciever, and battery is just under 23 lbs. It has a quadra 35 in it. What do you guys think. Is the quadra gonna have enough power to get her airborn? We fly off a 400 foot grass field.
Thanks, Trevor.

If everything has already been installed, it probably wouldn't hurt to try...

I'm of the mind that it will be underpowered....even though the Nosen has a generous wing area...... My 2 cents worth.

I have a 20 pound giant scale plane I built (like a 90" ws big stick) that has flown with a variety of engines. I think for a 23 pound plane 50cc would be minimum, and something like a G62 or Brison 69cc would be even better. I have another of myown design aerobatic planes that weighs in at 26 pounds, and the Brison 69cc flies it well.

35cc may get it off the ground but I think it will be marginal at best... JMO!

It depends what you are looking for Trevor. I have seen the Nosen P51 fly on a Q35 and it flew like a big trainer, not a fighter. If you want performance you will need a bigger engine.

Yes we know it is going to be underpowered. We were just wondering if many or any have been flown with a Q35. Nice to know there has been a few. I think 23 lbs is pretty resonable for that size of plane. I'm sure he will give it a try with the 35. I'll let you know how he makes out, although it likely won't be to soon as it's snowing pretty hard here today. Another thing I have noticed from your replies is that I spelled Nosen incorrectly. Sorry!
Thanks and talk to ya later.

nosen-51

Back in the early 70's Bud Nosen used to come down to the Soo for the scale contests and I remember when he brought down his P-51 one year.It was pretty amazing because it flew with a 0.60 cubic inch 2 stroke engine with a belt drive to a big prop( I dont remember the size). It also had functional scale exhaust that sounded great. It flew ok too from what I can remember. No big aerobatics or anything but no one cared about that when giant scale was just was just getting started...Steve

The aircraft has been sold again, so it still hasn't flown. If I hear about it's first flight from the new owner I'll post the results. Thanks, all. Later, Trevor.

I have recently bought this plane... Still a bunch of balsa sticks and sheets new in the box... Is there any kind of building construction notes as well as any kind of review for this plane.... maybe the flying characteristics..!!! .... will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
