Club Homepages

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hi all,
I am just wondering if someone could help our club with our homepage. Let me start by saying I know absolutely nothing on this subject, but I am trying to help out our club webmaster. It seems we are not able to post our pics or videos directly to our sites album.. we must send them to him and then he uploads them for us. Is this the only way that this can be done? Our club is Windy West Rc Club , Lethbridge Alberta. If someone could help him out sure would be nice. Thanks, Brad

Re: Club Homepages

If your webmaster used something like gallery to host your images then he could make accounts for members to upload their own images. It is relatively easy to setup and manage.

Re: Club Homepages

Hello, in our club, where I'm the webmaster, I designed a WebAlbum, and our "content manager" is able to upload herself the picture on the web site.

All what remain to do for me is to manage the remaining and add/removed new albums. Eventually I will add this functionality too, so that she can add and remove album.

If you need more information, feel free to contact me.

Our website is : www.clubModelisteMonteregie.net

Re: Club Homepages

I use Joomla for all my sites. Makes it really easy for members to upload movies, images, their own blogs, news, buy and sell, add local events, Facebook like community systems, integrated forums, etc, etc. Member permissions are also easy to set.
If you want a site where your club members are able to interact, share their projects, pictures, videos, news, etc Joomla is really the way to go.
The site in my link below is made with Joomla. I have a movie component on the frontpage, but that is not typical for a frontpage. Typically the frontpage consists of latest news and information.

Joomla is easy to use and highly customizable. I can change the look completely in mere seconds to minutes.

I can help anybody that is interested in setting up their own Joomla site.

Re: Club Homepages

A little off topic but people should check out hostignition dot com. They have a minifire option for web hosting that is $20 US and includes 1 GB storage, 40 GB transfer and other features including Fp extensions. $20/year. I am not affiliated at all with them but had our club hosted for free at rcgroups but they stopped supporting and when I asked for an addition to the 300MB we used I got no response, so I moved on.

hostignition is Canadian and seems to be in Richmond Hill, Ont. Finally a deal from a Canadian firm. Customer service is excellent and server response seeems good.

You can also have up to 5 domains at one site so 5 clubs could get together and for $4US each have a web hosting service(not that that would ever happen! ).

How about another Canadian Company hostpapa.com.
Based out of Toronto.
At $4.95/mo.
Unlimited web space.
Ulimited data transfer.
Unlimited domains on one account.
No set-up fees.
No hidden fees.
Free domain for life.
and all the tools/bells and whistles, forum/blog/gallery software etc..
Used them for the past year and a half or so, and I'm tickled.

Cheers,
Tom

Re: Club Homepages

Hostpapa...4.95/month when you sign up for three years. I'm not committing $180 to web hosting for 3 years. Too many go sour or down the tubes, but if you believe, it is a good deal.

I prefer the annual 20US or about $25 CDN.
Hostignition is Canadian also.

Seems like hosting has become a good deal if you shop around.

To each his own!
