I use the same method as reno, with the exception that I use ripstop nylon. All kinds of different colours to choose from, right down to camo for warbirds. I also reinforce the wing joint with a 4" strip of ripstop and use dilluted epoxy. The only problem I have with using WBU is that on wet mornings, if you leave it sitting on the grass, the covering will come up. It's fine again when it dries though. Ripstop nylon is very strong material and very cheap to buy.

Hey Patch, can you tell us where we can get the ripstop nylon?? That sounds like a pretty good idea. I want to see what kinds of colors are out there as I can use it for my Mustang instead of paint.
Do you have any pictures of airplanes you have covered this way? I want to see what the finnish is like. Steve |

I get it at fabric stores, sometimes you can get it in a camo pattern which would be good for some warbirds.

the lighting isn't the best.
one wing is what is left of my A6M 1/12 scale Zero that hit the ground at 80+MPH, the other is a SSC F-190 that had a major mid air. As you can see, the only damage is a balsa aileron. It continued to fly and land with no problem. I am sure that the ripstock is fine for your application. These combat wings have top and bottom 1" strips of carbon fiber and 1/4" leading edge dowels. My newer wings use fiberglass rods for the leading edge. At the end of summer when deck umbrellas go on sale, I buy a few of them and rip out the fiberglass rods. A heck of a lot cheaper then buying from the hobby shop. Another tip is to use bicycle spokes for control rods. basically free, and already threaded for you.

I would agree with all the above comments of glassing over styro-foam! Here's what I did while making a foam/balsa wood engine cowl! Same technique for anything made of foam including old Sullivan foam floats!
Hope it helps http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/s...d.php?t=215669
