Question John Cook Diamond Airfoil Designs

Hi all,

John Cook "The Crazy Canadian"?

He used to do all the RC Airshows until about 8 years back. Now after a break from the world of RC he is back flying again.

Last summer I met up with John again and introduced him to the Outrunner and Lipo. Now he is really into electric. Now he is converting some of his designs into electric and working on new "out of this world" designs.

Do any of you have or have had one of his designs and what was your experiences with them?

I am thinking of making the Dominator canard as an electric.

He now has a personal website called dreamchasermodels.com

Hello John,
I have plans for your .049, .40 and .60 size dominator series. built the .40 size. Good flying planes especially in windy settigns. Alkso flew you illusive, and stunt runt. Good designs and as long as they are built light they are great fun fliers.
Might build the .60 size with a 2 piece wing. Forgot I had these plans

Hi Dave,

I'm not John. Just asking who remembers him.

I am working with him and depending on the popularity of the designs there might be kits or ARFs available. The plans are available right now.

I am thinking of builing the Dominator 5 for electric. I haven't flown one of his Dominators yet but I used to own a Vindicator back in the early 90's. It flew good, but it slowed down a lot in the corners. That didn't fit my flying style back then, but I think it would be great now.

John is working on a ducted fan version of the Dominator. The fan will be right at the back with ducts coming from the canopy area.

My Dominator will have a folding prop and solid rocket tubes put in at the very back on the thrust line. 2.5 pound plane plus 6lb thrust rocket should be fun!

Cory,
I have set of plans for your bandwagon as well. I'll have to check out his website. I remember a few years back talking to John at a funfly, he was talking about making a full size Dominator and flying it. Nice guy and quite a charicter.

Hi Dave,

What version of the Bandwagon plans do you have? Did you work in Ideal?

Re: John Cook Diamond Airfoil Designs

HI JOHN!!!!! Welcome to RCC.

I am glad to see you back in the modeling world.

I have your Dominator GT I got from you from the MAAC auction years ago. I still have it.

I was trying to get it flying agin last year, but it was a long time since I flew it last, and I still haven't found the correct CG. I do recall that the last time I flew it, it was an insane flier and had my heart in my throat the entire time I flew it. Not too many planes give you a buzz like that.

My friend had the Frog(?) and that was a great VSTOL lander...
Are you bringing back some of these designs?

I will definitely be looking for you at the AMAC swap meet.

Re: John Cook Diamond Airfoil Designs

John, how many of the Dominator GT's did you make? The last time we talked in Toledo, Years ago, I recall that the GT version was an experiment, yes?
