One item that is beneficial when building shocks is to know the function of the bladder.

The bladder provides a consistent and isolated air bubble at the top of the shock to allow for the increase in volume when the shock shaft travels into the shock body.

If the air bubble (Seperated by the bladder) was not there (Less dense and compessable medium), then the shock shaft travelling up, by way of hydraulic compression, would blow the shock seals.

Therefore, it is reasonable to have fairly aggressive rebound as the compressed air on the other side of the bladder is going back to zero PSI when the shoch shaft is fully extended.
