Club rules for dogs?

Just thought I would see what other clubs are doing with the question of dogs at the flying field. We have had a few issues at the club and wonder what the most common way to deal with the issue.

Let me know what your club does and how it works for you.

Thanks, Bill

Re: Club rules for dogs?

Dunno about rules but when Gary brings his dog she listens, my dog on the other paw, has been to the club a few time but never gets off leash, she has a need to test everyone for friendliness.

I would say it depends on the dog and owner.

If the dog doesn't pester, and the owner takes responsibility, I see no problem.

Well that seems to be the issue...good dogs can only be as good as their owners...

Me, I'm pro dog (I have to be, live with 4 champion golden retreavers) but my wife and I are for "responsibile pet owners" that means you pooper scoop, and don't let your dog bother others who may not be so dog friendly.

Are there any clubs that have banned dogs? (this may be the option we are looking at.)

Bill

Re: Club rules for dogs?

Our club allows dogs, but they must remain on the leash and not left unattended.
If you are going to just bring your dog to the field to tie it to a post and forget about the poor thing while you fly.
You are best to leave them at home.

Re: Club rules for dogs?

I have a dog. I brought it out to the field a few times. It was either on leash or very far from the flight line. One day I had gone out on a very windy day to look for a battery that had fallen from a fellow members plane. Rather than taking my dog out to the dog park for a walk I took her with me knowing that no one would be out flying. After searching for an hour or so I found the battery and it was time to head home, but by then the wind had died and some people had showed up. By the time I made it back. Someone had already taken off and for whatever reason had landed way out in the field. My dog being a bird dog ran out to the landed aircraft. She did not so much as touch the plane and ran back. The member however was very upset and was yelling that "Your dog should be on a leash". He was right. although there was no harm done to his plane he should not have to worry about my dog.
If you allow good dogs and not bad dogs that will lead to a lot of hurt feelings. They must be leashed at least. Any other restrictions will be up to your club.

Best of luck. Dealing with DOG people is not easy.

Kip
LOL Will he fetch?

I've had my dog out to our field a couple times, but I've opted not to fly those times.

Re: Club rules for dogs?

This is the sign posted at the entrance to our pits area.

The pit area is roped off with 6' openings here and there to allow members to pass through with their planes and equipment.
Of course, the rope fence is just used to define the start of the pits. Anyone can just walk in but the signs are posted at the openings to remind vistors (and pets..aka. dogs) to stay out unless invited in.
