Re: 40% Lanier Edge...
Just a quick update for anyone reading this thread...
I've put the build on hold for a bit. Not that I've lost interest in it, just more that I'm focusing on my business right now (working 50-65hrs a week). I'm hoping to expand a little so that I can pay for all the cool toys when flying season comes back around. Also, I've had to divert my RC funds into recouping from a bad investment. Unfortunately these things sometimes pop up and we have to shift priorities. I should be able to continue on the build in the new year. |

Re: 40% Lanier Edge...
We can now put a period on this thread as the 40% Lanier Edge that Ryan started has now been finished and maidened I bought the kit from Ryan last fall with the fuse basically framed. Over the winter I finished the build with a DA170 on RE3 pipes. Smartfly EQ6 Power system, SWB arms and twin rudder servo tray and Hitec 7955's all round. Polished up a Tru-turn spinner and the kit landing gear. A couple of build pictures and then a couple of the finished product. It was a bit of a major redesign to install the RE3 tuned pipes but other than the pipe mounts and tunnel it was a pretty stock build. I did lighten up the tail quite a bit by opening up the bays in the plywoood sides and by drilling holes all over the place with a hole saw. Worked pretty well as she came out at 39.5 pounds (without fuel). Just to prove that I still have something to learn about covering I have also attached a picture of the wing after the first flight where a section of covering ripped off. I guess I missed a spot when doing the final ironing down of the edges with the hot iron. The rest of the covering seemed good and secure so I did two more flights anyways! Overall very happy with the way it flys. I may move the CG forward a touch but other than that very nice. This was my first pull on the sticks of a 40% plane and I am really looking forward to the IMAC season!
