Axe CP 450
Anybody have experience with these? I am going to help a friend that has had one for 2 years and still hasn't flown it. Setup should be straight forward. Just curious if its worth the trouble and it should be scraped or flown. Of course it doesn't have a programmable radio which may contribute to difficulties. I will know more by Tuesday.

Re: Axe CP 450
Helimax helis are pretty poor in general, I'd put that heli at the same level as an Esky Belt CP V2 so fairly poor electronics but certainly flyable.
The older model he has is probably the MX400 or the pro version, not sure on the difference between the two. The newer version is the Axe 400. You're right that with the stock RTF radio it's going to suck to fly for a beginner. No expo especially.

Re: Axe CP 450
I will see what he wants to do. Maybe a dx6i will help a bit.

Re: Axe CP 450
So it turns out it is a Axe CP with the motor driven tail. More like a 250 size heli. Let me tell you. This thing is horrible!! How do they expect a person to learn to fly with a piece of crap like that??
Turns out he had a broken flybar cage. What a ---- poor design that is. It has two little plastic tips on either end of it that the flybar goes through and is snugged up with metal collars and set screws. If you we're to tap or nick anything they break allowing the flbar to spin around. After fixing that and doing some servo, swash and pitch adjusting I managed to spool it up. Just as I expected its touchy as heck and very hard to maintain a hover. Without a computerized radio it won't get any better. (No expo or sub trims) I am harassing him to buy something better that is belt or shaft driven. All said and done he still wants to take it out tonight under the parking lot lights and play with it tonight. Wish us luck! Lol

Re: Axe CP 450
Ahhh... the Axe CP, basically a copy of the original HH Blade CP. Twitchy, sloppy, fragile... those were the days. I learned to hover on a blade cp, after that everything else was easy.

Re: Axe CP 450
LOL, I have a buddy that moved to Texas and took his blade cp with him (we got them at the same time). He finally got tired of it last year and bought an align trex 450 sport.... planted it on his third flight now he wants to bring it up here on his next visit for me to help him set it up. Told him to join AMA and find a local club then he can fly at the clubs up here when he visits.

Re: Axe CP 450
I have an Axe CP. the one wiht the 72mhz radio in it
I have hovered it and continue to hover it inside and outside. its not that bad. it does take some getting use to. and is a bit ---- on the flybar setup, even and level. One odd thing about it is the first 30 seconds or so of the battery pack the thing is extremly twitchy. after that i land it and take off again and it seems to be alright. I have a small stock pile of parts for it because I do like it, maybe I like suffering who knows. but if something breaks and you cannot easily find a part let me know we can work something cheap out. Good luck, its not that bad. or atleast for me it isnt. |
