Re: Golden Hawk Sabre

Thanks for posting this Larry. I had just received a couple of photos by email this morning... For anyone interested in following this unique project, the Hawk one website can be found here:
http://www.hawkone.ca/pages_E/100years_E.html

My Father-in-law used to fly sabres in the early 50's. He told stories of them trying to break the sound barrier. They would stagger up to 50,000' or however high they could get to, and roll over on their back and go straight down at full power. Depending on the temperatures, and if they had a good machine, they would slip past mach 1 for a very short time until they hit the denser air at the lower altitudes.........

here are a couple of pics of RCBart's sabre at the Comox Scale event a few years ago.....

Re: Golden Hawk Sabre

Got to see the Hawk 1 Sabre a couple of times this year as he was joining up with the Snowbirds for a few shows. He flew with the 'birds during their acceptance show as well.

I also saw a civilian owned F86 flying out of Cold Lake, I'm not sure but I think his job was as a target tug.

Just so neat to see that swept wing profile when they bank.

Re: Golden Hawk Sabre

I wonder how many of the Golden Hawks parked around the country in various museums are ones that got painted that way or were actually part of the team's inventory. We've got Trenton (is that the one in the railroad park by the bridge, or is there another one in the RCAF Museum?)

Re: Golden Hawk Sabre

There is one in Trenton by the Arena, another at the RCAF Museum in Trenton and one in Belleville by the Bay Bridge.

Re: Golden Hawk Sabre

The model of the Golden Hawks Sabre hanging in the Trenton museum is one I built back in the mid 70's. Eric Dizenbach
