1/10 scale blue foam F16 pusher

OK, this is my last pusher. After this, I'm trying a ducted fan build.

Credit for the base design goes to Hans-Joachim on RCgroups. My update will include wings with proper airfoils, retracts and a proper cockpit. Since work has started up again, this is going to be a very slow build. Here's what I have so far.

Yeah Geri, the fan thing is cool

What thickness is your foam?
Will you use 64 mm fan?

Re: 1/10 scale blue foam F16 pusher

Glued carbon rods into elevators.

I cut a groove into both mating sides of the elevator. It is just big enough so that the rod is tight when the two halves are pushed together. I then cover the seam on both sides with tape. The keeps the glue from expanding out over the show surface. I then sandwiched the parts in wax paper and put my wife's largest books on top to hold them flat on the table.

Rudder will get the same treatment next.

Re: 1/10 scale blue foam F16 pusher

Glued in a piece of carbon rod to stiffen the rudder. I also added one to the forward portion of the fuse. This will support the area where the battery and front landing gear will sit. The battery will be cantelevered out quite far and there won't be much cross section to support the battery weight once the tub is built for the cockpit.

Re: 1/10 scale blue foam F16 pusher

Latest update for June.

Formers for the fuse are glued top and bottom.
Rudder leading and trailing edges have been sanded down. Flap is cut and dry fitted with hinges.

The stabilizers have also been sanded to shape. I've covered them in 3/4oz cloth and WBPU. They're dry fitted with the pivot blocks.

Wings are half built using 3mm depron. There's a carbon and wood spar running thru them. Once done, they'll get glassed.

The canopy is carved from foam, filled with spackle and covered in glass. This will be used for a plug for vaccume forming.

Re: 1/10 scale blue foam F16 pusher

It's slowly moving along. Here are some more pics. Wings are covered and servo pockets and covers are in. Glue'd in supports for the wings. It's starting to look like a plane now.

Re: 1/10 scale blue foam F16 pusher

Last set of pictures for June. Next step is to complete the elevators along with servo installation. Based on testing I did with the 100% smaller version, I'm going to run elevator and ailerons instead of elevons.
