Re: Cubs? Why yes... We all like Cubs.

I think we need to have an "Alberta Cub Club" LOL.

Meet twice a year, Once on Wheels and Once on Floats. I bet we'd have a few Cubbies coming out.

Re: Cubs? Why yes... We all like Cubs.

Manny....those are like tundra tires, but smaller!

hk.....I'm going to try the 6" Dubro wheels, but they weigh lots......22oz to be exact. The Page cub is really light though, so I think that it will handle it.

The other option for an 80" cub is 6" Trexlers. They are really light, but fragile and do not look that great due to the wooden hub. They also have to be ordered direct from Trexler and the shipping was insane when I looked into it about a year ago.

The third option is to put the Trexler tires on the Robart hubs. This looks great and is really light, but it costs lots to buy both sets just to make one set. This is what I plan on doing if the weight is an issue. Just thought I should try the Dubros first.

Here's some pics:
1- Stock Trexler's
2- Trexler Dubro combo
3- Page Cub with standard Dubro's

Re: Cubs? Why yes... We all like Cubs.

I just had my 1/4 H9 Cub out for a few flights today... First this year actually and the first since I put the 1/3 Du-Bro tires on it. W&B was perfect and I just left the Higgins heavy prop nut off and used the aluminum one instead. Prop was a 16x8 Xoar in front of a Zenoah G26 (Magneto)...

Re: Cubs? Why yes... We all like Cubs.

Yeah, I'm going electric! That way I can sneak in morning float flights while the water is calm without waking anyone up. I started building it last winter, but got stalled on how to make the wing a two piece. The one down fall of the Adrian Page Cub is that it is a one piece 80" wing if built to the plans. That would seriously limit what I can haul it in.

Here's a pic of my 40" Page Cub with floats and a scale lighting kit (landing lights too!).

Re: Cubs? Why yes... We all like Cubs.

I made the wing on my second cub (first one died a violent death!) a two piece wing. I, too, found the eighty inch wing on the first one a bit of a pain. It is the Great Planes Arf, and all I did open up the pockets the wing joiner was to go into so it would permit a new wing joiner to extend one more rib bay on each side. Granted, I DO NOT do any aerobatics with this plane; when I do fly it, I just fly it nice and gentle. (OK, I'm a woose! What can I say except 'I'm sorry'!)

Re: Cubs? Why yes... We all like Cubs.

Time to resurrect this thread! I'll be picking up my 2nd Cub (first was a HZ Super Cub, lol) this weekend and will be making a small restoration project of it.

I've been having a blast on my IMAC and 3D planes all summer, but thought it was time to have something a little more docile and scale-like to enjoy. Hopefully I'll be keeping the power low enough so that I don't get the urge to start huckin' it, lol!

It's a used 1/4 scale Sig J-3. 105" WS, unsure of the fuse length, though. Planning on going with a DLE 30cc for power. Should be enough for some spirited scale-ish flight. Not likely enough to hover. (actually it probably will be. Supposed to be in the 14-16lbs range. It comes with a set of skis and wheels, and I have a feeling it'll be using both.

I think I'm going to really enjoy this!

Re: Cubs? Why yes... We all like Cubs.

I got my cub today. I started pulling the fabric off the wings and found out that some mice had been making a home of the wings for quite some time. All the ribs are chewed through.

I think I might just get myself a new kit and build from scratch, as the wings are pretty much unrepairable. Luckily the plane didn't cost me much.

The fuse is still somewhat solid, so I might recover that and go from there.
