EPP FPV - FPV Project.

So I got this plane a few weeks back and have been slowly working on getting it together.

I wanted to get a full training/stable FPV plane to play with. I know there are few alternatives for the OCD/Navigational equipment but I decided to stick with eagletree as they are known and I wanted to get something that works for sure for a 1st toy.

Main equipment is OSD, GPS antenna, logger, ground station, 5.8Ghz transmitter/receiver, another identical receiver for diversity, long range antenna and a antenna tracking station and ordered video glasses just for fun.
My video camera of choice is gopro naked. The quality is very good and wiring was simple to the OSD/video transmitter with just servo extensions.
To record on the computer I went with this video recorder, tested and it seems to work jsut fine.
I used this unti-vibration gopro mount with pan and tilt. For the tilt I picked this servo and for panning I went with full size due to the camera size.

For the radio I'm using JR 9303 with the Assan module and long range receiver.
My receiver and module are still in customs, happy holidays to me, so the build is not 100% complete yet. I went with Assan as I already have a bunch of stuff on it and all woks well. I just updated radio from Futaba to JR so had to get new module, wanted to keep my receiver collection

For the power system I went with NTM Series 35-36A 1800Kv motor and hope to use it on 2s with 11 inch prop. 11 inch as as big as you can stick on this plane, 12 will cut the tail. The power system is here but I was no able to test it yet, so will report later on how well it handles this plane. I had a spare 60amper so that is what I used, I think I could have went with less, but what the heck, also had to use a UBEC to power the receiver as the ESC is Opto.

For now I stuck with the same servos all the way around as on the picture, good old HXT900. It don't expect this to be a performance plane so they should do just fine, if they cause problems I'll report back.

Over-all plane shot.

2nd picture
Inside wiring's bee nest. So many wires once you go with OSD, hard to believe.
The good thing there is plenty of space inside the fuselage.

3rd picture
This is camera wiring under the hatch. Had to label all the wires as I was getting lost in this rats nest. I've added one extra magnet on the bottom to keep the hatch closed better, will add one more.

4th picture
Camera mounted and tested.

5th picture
This is the ground station setup and laptop

6 and 7, plane and plane with my mom holding it

As soon as the receiver arrives I'll stick the wings on and got for a test flight.
I've also ordered a set of landing gear and right now contemplating is I should use them.

Plane is almost complete, I hope to test fly it next weekend.

Re: EPP FPV - FPV Project.

I see you got the Eagle Tree OSDpro good choice I have that system and am very happy with it. The Return to Home feature is great takes a bit of work to get it setup but when you do it works very well and seems to be very reliable. I have had mine return to home from over two miles away flying on it's own.

Re: EPP FPV - FPV Project.

Vasy.

I picked of a couple of 2.5mm right angle jacks for my gopro. A lot smaller and less drag.

Here's the RCGroups build thread.

Re: EPP FPV - FPV Project.

Cool Project.

Take a look over on RCGroups.com, in the Flying Wings section, and look up "the ultimate ritewing build thread".

Lots of good info on flying long distance with the GoPro set up for fpv.

For a proof video on the quality, check THIS LINK

Enjoy,

Pat

Wow. Fascinating stuff. Vasy, dare I ask what order of magnitude of investment is involved to put this package together?

Re: EPP FPV - FPV Project.

That is a cool adapter buffythesaint, I missed that. As you can see I just took stock cable and cut it to make basically that adapter.

I saw that "ultimate ritewing". It is a "bit" faster plane and better FPV gear for longer range. You for sure need license to operate that.

rbwater, I've included links to every item on the plane and setup, you are welcome to add it up, I'm scared, so I just play "ostrich"

Re: EPP FPV - FPV Project.

I'm interested in your results with your pan and tilt mechanism. One of the guys on RCGroups tried a pan servo with the gopro and he had alot of vibration. Yours is anti-vib, so I hope you get good results. You might want to velcro your camera foam tray down. Those magnets won't keep it in place.

Re: EPP FPV - FPV Project.

I'm very interested to hear how well that plane flies. Not many out there that are designed specifically for FPV.
