I have a gas engine that has spark, fuel, compression, but still won't even fire, I'm using the same fuel/oil mix as what is in my weedeater, I'm not going to fly it yet but would like to get it running, could the mixture be that important ?

fuel

not likely, unless the fuel is old.

If it has all three things that u mention going for it, it has to be the timing.

If it's a magneto engine, it's possible that you're not spinning it fast enough to produce sufficient spark to start. Often, guys check spark by removing the plug and grounding it to the head. The problem here is that with the plug removed, the engine will spin a lot faster allowing the magneto to produce a hot spark. With the plug installed, it spins slower (because of the increased compression) and it may not be spinning fast enough to produce sufficient spark. I know this from experience with a 31cc Ryobi I used to have.

Just a thought.....

it is a magneto, I tried spinning it with the torque starter but that wasn't going to good either, fully charged battery and it hardly turns the prop, tried flipping it, so how do you pros start these things ? and another thing I have two starters and they both turn in different directions, whats with that? I even checked the prop to see if it was on right ! thanks

Okay first 2 starters diff. direction just reverse the cables on the one turning the wrong way, should turn conter clockwise with rubber end away from you.The other well my first hunch would be that you don't have it wet enough they do like to start a little wet .Do you have a kill switch on it .Most switches (toggle switch) that guys use when it says on is really stop as you need to open the ignition circuit to run and close it to turn it off .The exact opposite of what the switch says.More info on the engine would help too! Size Make If conversion etc

that makes sense about the cables, thanks, I bought two Huskys a while ago, one came with a gasser and the other with a new Saito 4 stroke, of course the gasser is the flyable one, the other needs finishing, not sure what the gas conversion/type is, I just might switch engines for now, thanks for all your help everyone

For starters some guy's are using cordless drills. I used a Sullivan for a while on 24volts. Made a new one out of a starter motor for a 10hp engine that I picked up. You need about 500 rpm on start to get a good spark and it is a handful with a standard starter.
