Re: Spitfire Mk IX

Hey Cuz,

The Spit looks great. Almost a shame to put any paint to that baby.

Is the exhuast functional?

Hey Peter H, I think you and Mike need to use flite metal on your A-10!

Like Lee Steves Spit build has got me ALMOST wanting to live up to my RCC Handle! Hmmmm a nice Ziroli P-61 with twin DA 50Rs..... Hmmmm may have to see if I can get IMAC rules changed to allow twins!

Keep up the good work Steve.

Re: Spitfire Mk IX

Thanks guys,no the exhaust isn't functional at this time, maybe later on depending on how everything goes.I'm going with a post WW2 Italian scheme so very little paint, just some markings and a clear coat.I've already built the smaller rudder for that version.

ps.Jim I think you really should pick up that P-61,or any big warbird or scalebird for the increasingly popular scale events that are happening now and the new events that are coming soon!

Re: Spitfire Mk IX

Thanks Mark,I've got the tail covers completed.I used silver Solertex to do the job, nice stuff and its low temp, very easy to work with. Then I added the pinking tapes from Pink-It.com,again very easy to work with and is compatible with Solertex using the same temps to iron them on.I didn't add 100% of the tapes only 95%or so.Then I used carpenters glue for the stitching and painted the tapes with silver dope using an airbrush. On to the mid wing..

Re: Spitfire Mk IX

I've added the 20mm cannons to the wings. They are made from 1 1/8"dowels available from Canadian Tire, and brass tubing. Also made them removable using a 1/4-20 stud.Have about 3/4 of the mid wing finished at this time.

Re: Spitfire Mk IX

Steve,

Cannons look good.

Did you make them removable so less likely to get damaged when transporting?
