What do you answer to the police when ...

Well, we installed a smoke system on the QQ Yak and Nicolas was flying and testing it yesterday at the Oakville club.
Suddenly, sirens everywhere: police, ambulances, fire trucks.
They come and ask Nicolas: have you seen the two seater that went down somewhere behind the trees, it was on fire or something because there was a smoke trail.
Hmmm, count to five, bite your tongue and then answer: see this model airplane? That was it
They were in a good mood and then Nicolas explained them how it works, our hobby, etc. Fortunately it was a false alarm and soon they left.

Not to the guy wrecked on the QEW waiting for that rescue crew to arrive.
You would think the neighbours knew about the model planes by now (or is this the field in the conservation area?)

We had the samething a few years ago at the Stetson Field. Jim Brown was flying his GP Patty Wagstaff with smoke and did a very long inverted spin with smoke on and someone driving along HWY417 called 911 and reported a plane crash. The police show up first and was able to call off other emergency services. He made the local news and paper.

Re: What do you answer to the police when ...

On the other side of the coin, here in NS several years ago a gent was flying a newly acquired baby lakes biplane. This is a very small aircraft, almost too small to be a man carrying plane.

He stalled it quite high and quite a few people saw the "model airplane" spin to the ground. the pilot survived with some injuries, but since no one called about the "model", he spent some hours sitting on top of the wreckage until someone finally figured it out and came to his rescue.

Re: What do you answer to the police when ...

that's funny...

Ivan/Nic, that same thing happened to me @ the Mississauga Club in 1998, cops show up at our field and asked if we saw a small plane go down....apparently an older gentleman just about had a heart attack when he thought he saw a real airplane go down...it was just my midwest cap 232 with a smoke system (I guess it was smoking good!!)

it was actually a lady officer, Bob H was trying to get me to pick her up!...I was a little too young...lol
