Gas Push rod set up for Gas Engine

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
This may seem like a stupid question but I'M trying to get things together to set up a throttle servo and push rod for a DLA/DLE 112/111 gas engine on a Sig edge. I have not gotten the motor nor the servo but I want to know what type of push rod you use . Can some one point me in the correct direction(with pics) if you could..

Thanks
James

Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

Well I'm not going out and digging in my cargo trailer to add a photo. I have a DL100 mounted in a 33% Yak. I imagine your throtle servo will be mounted on the bottom of your motor box (like mine). A simple, short length of 1/16 music wire. "Z" bend on the servo arm, clevis (metal) on the throtle arm.
I always try and keep my throtle pushrod as straight as possible with no contact (where possible) through firewalls etc. music wire, but have used carbon rod aswell.
Hope this helps, but now there will be multiple alternatives.

Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

Heres how I just did mine on my 40%edge with a da150. I always use a manual choke as the carb hangs out the bottom of the cowl. my dle 111 is done the same way and has worked for us. Good luck and show us how you do yours..........

Thanks
Mike

Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

Thank-You Mike. Looks exactly like mine, except mine is straight music wire pushrod, and yours is Carbon. Carbon does give a more comfortable feel to some. I've never had any problems with music wire on throtle, since going PCM, and 2.4Ghz. (F.M. questionable still, for me)

Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

oh the weet look of a Savix servo.. WOW are they kicking ass . I know what I want to do but wanted to see what others are doing. I am still waiting for my engine to get here.. Well I guess I have to order it .. so I am ordering stuff from central hobbies as they have the right combination of titanium and carbon rods.. So I am running the go the way of Carbon and titanium for the push rods.. No flex or binding and DALE yes you are right. I would always use the music wire as well but for a gas engine that has a lot of (or more) vibration I think the carbon rod is better than the music wire. Both are good but wit hme be new to gas I want to hear all the possiblites ..

Thanks for the input.
Cant wait to come fly at Lornes.

Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

James, I too look forward to flying together at the Trout Farm.
Being at this as long as I have. I've come to accept there are many opinions, and Dale's.
Through bias, I often go with Dale's opinion.

Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

James: I used yellow nyrod to hook up my throttle servo on my 30 cc gasser. It has worked fine but on this form I asked the same question as you did to Trevor Brum. Next time I will do what he suggests. He uses 4-40 threaded rod (with appropriate attachments) and then covers the threaded rod with a carbon fibre tube. No doubt he epoxies the tube to the threaded rod. That makes a lot of sense to me especially when using a larger engine than the one I am using. . . Hope this helps and good luck!

Thumbs up Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

James,
I use a carbon fiber rod with a 4-40 threaded rod going through the center. At either end I use a 4-40 lock nut and washer. I finish it up with 4-40 ball links at both ends.

Re: Push rod set up for Gas Engine

Thanks for all the replies and Invitations. I just ordered the engine on Nov 30th so it is going to take a little bit get here then I get to have some alone time with it.. I am ordering my Titanium push rods from Central Hobbies as I have lots of the carbon rod and like their product..

Going to be a bit of a wait so lets put a fire under TBrum and get that Cardon done...
