Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
Bottom wings are done! Looks like the fuselage is next....... I sent an email to AMR re: Lozengetex ..........no reply. I did receive my B-USA Lonzengetex. Very nice, exactly like Solartex. A little shiny but once I get the satin coat on it should be just fine.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
I'd call AMR, they've always been quick to pick up the phone, just check their working hrs online.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
I started the fuse by cutting out and labeling all the relevant parts. The quality of the wood is excellent, as usual from Balsa USA. The forward doubler consists of three laminated pieces. This makes for a strong but lite structure. As with all my plans I use ceiling tile and wax paper.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
The RIGHT side fuse has been completed and will be used as a template to build the LEFT side. When I build fuselage sides like this I'm not so worried if they match the plans outline 100%, but more concerned that the built up sides match each other. Wood glue and CA is used. The sides are over 7' long.......

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
To me this is the best part of building the fuselage! It really gives you as sense of accomplishment. It is very important that all formers are square. Wood glue and CA is used here. The size of this model is really starting to show now.....may have to move into the garage work shop!

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
Fuselage has come together nicely. All stringers have been installed, including all the triangle support pieces at every junction. The fuse came out completely straight. The landing gear blocks were also installed. I used 30 minute epoxy and added in a few pieces of triangle stock to beef this area up. The upper part of the fuse is added later after the gear assembly has been made.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
As with all my WW1 models, I like to make the complete tail assembly removable. This aids in storage, transport and most important, stab incidence adjustment during the trimming process. I used 1/4-20 plastic wing bolts/blind nuts and aircraft plywood to make the mounts. I flip the stab over and line it all up with my center line marks. I then trace the outline of the fuse. This gives me the area in which I have to work with. Very little weight gain in this area for a huge increase in convenience.

Re: B-USA 1/3 Fokker DVII
The bottom wing is two piece and is mounted to the fuse with a 3' long square aluminum tube. The tube slides into a receiver box in the fuselage. This box needs to be adjusted to set the incidence.
