KK control aero mode

I have been researching the use of muli-copter arduino base open source board for the purpose of airplane stab for AP/AV/FPV. I decided to include the KK control and so far it looks like very good cheep replacement for 3 standard gyros.

This test was complete to proof operation evaluation of the system operation. I was not able to use the standard layout of board because the dimension would not fit in the fuselage. So to I position the board with the direction arrow pointed up, this position the yaw gyro in the pitch axis orientation. The rest of the axis are connected as orientated to proper operation.

My test flight today shows very nice operation of this board. I only chose the typhoon to proof that you could take very responsive, non stable aircraft and it could be made to fly better than the most stable trainer.

Thanks for interest, any question or discussion welcome.

Re: KK control aero mode

The Standard configuration is not the best for fix wing operation due to the dimension and orientation of gyros.

I mounted the board vertical arrow straight up this resulted in the need to swap channels to maintain proper gyro orientation.

Here's the flying wing setup with rudder optional.

The throttle channel must be connected to the both KK board and the ESC, I suggest a Y cable.
Arming is done by keeping throttle at idle and Rudder over hard or in my modified configuration elevator down. If the board does not arm reduce throttle trim till arming can be achieved.

Here’s a video with the KK control on my HK EPP FPV airplane, wind were very rough and gusty this day so a good test for stability test

Re: KK control aero mode

Excellent report. That is very timely for me...

I just ordered 2 of these. 1 for my Hexacopter project, and another for me to experiment with. I might stick the second one on a plane like you did.

Both for $58 shipped, so I figure I cant lose!

I've seen them little cheaper, but make sure you get the USB loader too. Later you can buy them seperatly but don't buy the HK ones with only 4 output ports.

Re: KK control aero mode

Here's the aerial video I shot on Sunday. The roll rate was a little high and my camera mount had a little play so the video was less than perfect but quality was good and based on the condition at this time I'm very happy. Unfortunately viewing from the ground she looked great. I've shimmed the camera mount, reduced the roll gyro rate and re-jigged the elevator control to add more throw.

Re: KK control aero mode

Nice! that vid looked nice and smooth!.

I got my 2 controller boards a short while ago and got some more goodies this week. I just started a hexa project with the first one (posted in the rotary wing section) and already started building. Once done, I will use the second one in a plane like you did. Great stuff!
