Stoopid question

Hi Guys,

Really obvious answer to a stoopid question. To fly fling-wings you have to have a heli radio??

Been flying fixed wing for almost 10 years, never thought about helicopters. Kinda kicking around the idea. I've got a few radios for my planes, guess I can't use them on a helicopter, eh??

Well, yes and no...

Not a stupid question by the way.
To fly a helicopter that has collective pitch (the majority now) you need a helicopter radio, which is a minimum of 5 channels that can mix the throttle channel and the collective channel (the channel that varies the pitch of the blades).

If you fly a fixed pitch helicopter, than you can use a normal 4 channel radio.

For example, I fly a TT Raptor, which uses collective pitch...so it needs to use a heli capable radio, but I also bought a LMH Corona for indoor flying which is an electric fixed pitch machine which could technically use a standard 4 channel radio.

Hope this answers your questions.

If you could tell us which radios you own we may be able to let you know if they are useable for helicopters.

There are radios like the JR 8103 that you can use to fly helis.
