If it is the 2 or 3 star, I would start with a 15 tooth pinion and go from there. If you are planning to run at Sid's, the smaller pinion will work better for the tight and technical infields. |

Lol.. difference between old and new..
In the old days you would say your gearing for your tranny.. your rollout for your wheels, your Spur gear teeth size, and the turns and type of winds of your motor, and not to be forgotten size of battery.. then we give suggestions on your pinion. I guess now there is only 1 tansmission.. everyone is running 2.2 wheels and Spur never seems to change, motor I guess most know and batteries.. who can use 3800mah in a run anyway... (a few still using 2400mah nicads) Ahhh times have changed..

Rollout
Bikerbob,
Good point. I prefer rollout myself. This means that optimal speed in one chassis can successfully transfer to a completely different chassis with the same motor. Batteries didn't play as much for me but, in 12th scale, I think it does as max speed using as much of batt capacity seems key to success. Final drive ratios work fairly well to get close but only rollout guarantees optimal motor use. This is all affected by track but those adjustments should be made on site. www.balakracing has a good rollout calculator or www.gearchart.com T |
