Large Engine Test Stand ??

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
I need some advice... I've got a few motors that I want to break in further over the winter and tune out / test with various cans, pipes and props.... in particular my ZDZ 80 Super and the 3W 106CS.

I want to build a test stand for this size of motor (obviously it will have to be strong) instead of mounting them to airframes. My thoughts are to bolt the unit to the picnic table at the flying club to prevent it from taking off on me.

Here's an idea that I'm thinking of building....
http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/contact.html

Does anyone have a test stand that would do?
Does anyone have any plans?
Any suggestions or advice?

Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Hi

I built an engine test stand a couple of years ago . I wish I had a digital camera to show you . Here are the specs :
1) 14 inch prop
2) detachable protecter around prop
3) Ajustable tank heigh
4) Ajustable throudle control , you can mount the cable anywere on the mount , front carb , rear carb , either side of engine , anywere
5) The tach is mounted on the front of the prop
6) only tools needed is a 1/2 key to mount engine
7 ) there is a collecter box to to the stand , the box has a small fan to create a small vaccum to collect all the oil , it would seperate the oil from the smoke
8...0 it is mounted to a stool
9 ) at the rear of the stool is a remove able shelf that you put youre field box on to act as a counter weight
10) in front of the stool is a rack to hold the starter
11) you can put a servo and a reciever instead of a mannel throudle

This test stand is a work of art and very well crafted . it took me a year and a half to build . When I bring it to the field , its truely a show piece .Trying to discrib it here doesn t do it justice . And thats why is a shame that I cann t show you any photos . But that might chage with in te next couple weeks . I truely wish that I could show it to you . Theres a lot more to it than what I ve said here . I few people have looked at it and said that I m a very sick guy ( in a good way )

The exhaust collecter is really neet , and it works , good for the enviroment . And no tools needed

Michel

Wow... I was just looking for a stand to hold the engines... this takes it to a whole new level.

If you ever get pictures of it, please post them for all to see!

Cheers

Weather you want to lissen to this or not is up to you

Most of the good gas motors dont need no test stand

Break it in the air

And do alot of us a favour.. if you just have to do it anyways.. PLZ LEAVE YOUR KIDS IN THE HOUSE

Safty FIRST and man if a prop comes off.. you figure out the rest
