Esky Honey Bee--Is thing any good or what?

I keep seeing these things all over E-bay. Are they any good? I wouldn't mind having a small electric heli to just fly while just sitting around the house or at work in my shop when things are slow.
I know they're over seas but does anyone actually have one.
Myles

If you want a micro go for the E-Flite Blade CP. The honey bee is a copy off the hornet two, which IMO is not a very good heli.

Have flown both extensively. The Blade and Honeybee are almost identical. The main diff being the head. The Blade does not use any mixing to the mainblades for ail and ele cyclics whereas the Honeybee does. That is the main difference. Everything else is compatible. Both helis fly remarkably well considering they are micros. I bought my Honeybee from ebay and was very impressed with what I got for only 170 CAN. The honeybee comes with the 370 motor and 9 tooth pinion whereas that is considered a hop up on the Blade. The honeybee also comes with a Li-po and charger instead of the NiMH. The honeybee also comes with fully symmetrical blades whereas the Blade comes with flat bottom.

They are quite strong. I crashed mine from forward flight and only broke the pin on the main shaft. I was very surprised that the heli survived with such little damage.

The E-Flite Blade CP uses 120 deg. CCPM mixing. Maybe we're thinking of different helis?

Morning All

The E-Flite Blade CP is very popular here in the Ottawa area. I have ordered one for indoor flying. Flys well outside in all kind of wind conditions.

cheers

If you're serious about the hobby, I couldn't recommend the Blade or Honeybee. Sure, it has its benefits as a starter heli. Just expect to dispose of it in a couple months and move onto something bigger and better like a TREX.

I started with a honeybee 2 and I was constant upgrading it to try to get it in a sweet spot. Maybe thats my fault. Just upgrade the tail motor and don't think about upgrades.

I basically learned to hover and fly around with the honeybee before I sold its shattered remains for spare parts.

Hopefully the blade has more part availability. I was ordering parts from China for my honeybee.

The Hornet 2 has a shaft driven tail? Last time I checked, the HoneyBee didn't. Although I think the head for the HoneyBee is the same as for the Hornet 2..

I love my Hornet 2... Why don't you think it's a very good heli?

I had a hornet-II and didn't like it at all. Compared to a 30 size+ nitro heli it was...um, well there’s really no nice way to put it lol. Keep in mind this is my personal opinion but i didn't like it in the slightest. It was a royal pain to work on and unlike their add says it wont 3D unless you dump about a thousand dollars into it. I had a brushless setup running 3 cell li-polys with a HH gyro… basically all the goodies offered my MS Composit. After flying it about 20 times and trying to make it 3D good like they said it would I gave up and it sat on my shelf for a year until I sold it. I actually disliked flying it. It was really bouncy and twitchy, it got pitchy when flown fast, it didn't do anything precise, the cyclic was extremely slow and the tail control was quite poor. For 1k (what mine had into it) you can have a nice nitro setup that flies MUCH better. This is my main reason for not liking it...it's way to expensive for what you get. The e-flite blades flys a lot like the H2 and is 300 RTF!! I wouldn’t have been so disappointed with the hornet if MS hadn’t of used false advertising, it wont do 3D like a bigger heli (as they say)….it’ll do 3D but it’s more like work to get it to fly than it is fun. The hornet-II is a nice micro if you want to hover and fly curcits, but it wont 3D like they make it sound. One of my hornets (cp-X) actually blew up while I was 3Ding it.

So if you’re just going to use it for basic indoor flying it’s a cool little heli, but if you buy it thinking it will do what MS advertises it to do you’ll be disappointed.

Colin. Don't mince words. What do you really think? hehehe.

On the other hand, I think micros are generally getting better as the market grows.

Hi Colin,

The Blade does not use a Bell-Hiller head. Paddle cyclic pitch is not mixed to the main rotor blades. The Honeybee has a Bell Hiller head. I think that is what I was trying to say in the first place as most newbies have no idea what a Bell Hiller head is. Come to think of it, I barely know too

I agree that the micros fly no where near the precision that a larger chopper does, but I do hear good things about the TREX.
