Tonight I got the spar filler blocks Hysol'd into the wing pockets. The Aluminum spars are not glued in... they are just holding the filler blocks tight to the edges of the pockets

Tomorrow AM I can start on the main bulkheads and wing supports

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's

This morning I got the formers temporarily fitted in place and everything aligned. I'll post pictures tonight, however also get access holes in the fuse to be able to tighten up the 8 set-screws in those brackets that will clamp the wing spars in place.

Lots of messing around, but a nice job underway

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's

And here are a few shots of the wings temporarily fitted in place Starting to look more like an F-18 every day now.

Everything is temporarily fitted in place, but next job is to set the incidence of the wings and the 2deg of Anhedral. Then I can start gluing the formers and spars in place.

I've got 3-4 nights of work ahead and I don't plan on documenting the 52 steps to go for this process, so likely no progress pictures until next Monday/Tuesday.

Trev,
I'm sure you'll do this but the spar side with the holes is the side that gets glued into the wing. The smooth side goes into the fuse.

Absolutely. I just had the spar jammed in there to keep the filler blocks tight against the sides of the wing core and wasn't worried about which end... never thought of what the pictures would show, LOL.

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's

Holy Cow!! I don't think I've ever installed and removed pieces as many times on any other plane as these 2 bulkheads on this one!! The instructions are very well detailed and each step lays out a neat process to get everything aligned and the wing spars at 2deg of anhedral + wing incidence set + lined up to the wing sockets + Aluminum brace installed + access holes for the balldriver to get at the set-screws

Kudos to Yellow Aircraft for making nice, easy to understand steps for a fairly complicated set-up.

Re: Build Thread... A few Yellow Aircraft F18's

Here's a couple shots of the 2 main bulkheads glued in with Hysol after a final fitment with the wings to double check incidence and anhedral.

Tonight I'll go around these bulkheads with a fillet of Hysol like the other bulkheads in the back.

I figured you'd be all over that, and I debated even bringing it up as I didn't want to point out the obvious and offend you....but then if it wasn't obviuos I'd be annoyed at myself for not mentioning it. lol
